Erm, anyone else having problems with Elite detecting their joystick today? It was weird, I was playing it fine last night. Today? Won’t detect the joystick at all. Hell, I even go into the control settings and there’s not even a drop-down option for “Generic Joystick” anymore. My joystick (CH Fighterstick + throttle) is working fine in Windows though. The devices register, the buttons all register, they’re detected as game devices, etc. I blew out everything in AppData but still no dice.
I thought this was just a me problem, but then I look at the Elite forums and there’s someone having the exact same problem (working fine earlier, nothing will work today), only with a gamepad. I know they had a server update or restart recently but there wasn’t a client patch, was there?

What’s the largest profit anyone’s gotten on a single ton of goods? Right now I’m milking a 1 jump 4 ly Palladium run for 1,050cr each. That’s the best profit I’ve made to date on a ton.
It’s making me rethink holding out for the Cobra and getting a Hauler or Adder first so I can take some real advantage of this arbitrage. Ugh, I don’t know what to do.

Most i ever did was around 1600 a ton, i read some people doing over 2500.
edit: actually did way more than that but on rare commodities, but those dont count.
Kevin, just did some quick training and my Saitek stick still works. Did the other person have CH gear as well?
Anybody else had a docking bug where you get your number, get into position, nothing happens, then when the timer runs down you get blown up?
I’ve gotten into the game now, thoroughly enjoying it, and this was the second station I tried docking in (first was all hunky dory). I got bay 42, got into position inside the square, facing the tower, as I’d done successfully before, but nothing happened (i.e. no change of HUD type to “landing” system). I noticed on my radar that I seemed to have another bay somewhere else in the station marked (I think it was bay 14), so thinking it was maybe a bug where I’d been given the wrong number in my HUD, I went over there, lowered myself into position but got a loitering warning, so having some time left, I went back to 42, got into position again, timer ran out, and I got an illegal warning. Couldn’t get out of the station in time and got blown up.
Think I’ll just clear save as I’d only just started (had an item in cargo that I’d bought in my first station that I was hoping to sell in the second :) ).
So yeah…I got a paint job for my Cobra, because I love her so very much.

George, did you have your landing gear down and were heading the right way? I’ve almost gotten slagged because of that.
I know, it’s the IROC of Cobras. ;)
So today I hope to try a new tactic with Anacondas. Attacking her power core while busting out chaff (which I’ve never used) to throw off her guns while using shield cells (which I’ve also never used) for extra durability.

Very nice paint job, Brian. I just wish the game would let you get external views of your ship sometimes, apart from in the outfitting screen.
BTW, you did grab the free set of Cobra paint jobs that beta backers got a while back, right?
Gah, I don’t think I did.
I’ve never been scanned before docking at a station to deliver illegal goods. I dock as fast as possible. I’m guessing my luck will run out at some point.

You go to Frontier’s web store and “purchase” them for free.
Hah, yeah, it will, but it also depends on the station too. Worst for me was I got scanned when I had some rebel transmissions I forgot to sell after a mission, so I got fined like 10k.
Yeah, all that. I was in the box, level, facing the tower, landing gear down. (I actually found it quite easy to dock the first time, it’s all quite intuitive.) I tried all sorts of shuffling up and down, yawing around, but no dice, no change of HUD thing. Weird. I’m pretty sure the fact that there was that other bay in my radar with the V brackets has something to do with it. Somehow the system got confused I think.
Every once in a while I come in like I always do, pulling in with the number of the pad ahead of me and it shows me as being backwards in the bay… the little graphic when you’re landing shows your ship’s orientation in the bay. So if the nose is pointing toward you, that means you need to rotate your ship 180 degrees. That’s the only thing I can think of.
I had to ditch a landing when I couldn’t find my bay (it was #16 I think, which is one of those that’s right inside the entrance; I came in pretty fast and couldn’t find it so I was flying backwards, strafing, etc, to locate it). The loitering countdown started ticking and I panicked so I just flew back outside, reoriented myself, and flew in. Fortunately, I found it the second time.
Don’t map your landing gear button right next to your boost button.
Ugh, yeah, sounds like a weird fluke. :(
Bees wish they had such nice knees.
