Having played the Outer World, but not Control, after listening to what people said about Control I’d go with that for sure. Outer Worlds was OK. It had some good characters and the story wasn’t bad, but it felt like it had too much filler content.

Coupon doesnt work on pre-orders.

Thanks for the advice! I know they are different beasts, and both look interesting. I still have Greedall in my RPG backlog and my action backlog is a bit thin at the moment, so Control does seem to be the better choice right now.

Yes - but Cyberpunk releases before the coupon expires so you can still use it if you just wait to post release.

Has anyone played Griftlands? Thinking about picking it up during the sale but I haven’t seen much in the way of impressions or how far development has come.

I get most Klei stuff but it appears too early in early access last I looked

That sweet Fortnite money being put to good use!

Whoa , Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is free on the EGS.

It came out less than 2 months ago!

I love the Epic Games Store and it loves me.

Still debating what to use my coupon on and I could use some advice. As an FYI, I don’t play MP hardly ever. Thus far I’m contemplating:

  • RDR2 looks great, but my PC is old (i5 2500k w/970 GTX) and all reports seem to be I should stay away until I upgrade and that’s sadly not going to be anytime soon.
  • The Outer Worlds is certainly intriguing, but I’ve heard iffy things in reviews and on here.
  • Ancestors looks interesting, but the reviews seem to be middling.
  • Control looks unique, at least. But is that enough to earn my money and playing time? Hard to say.
  • Anno 1800 looks good, but I’ve said that about every Anno game and wind up putting very little time into them.

Any thoughts on the above or any other suggestions from the peanut gallery? (no multiplayer-centric games, please)

As an aside, I’m also interested in Phoenix Point, but I got good advice to keep clear until patches (and probably a sale) kick in. I loved Paranoia as a tabletop RPG, but I’m not sure how well it translates to a CRPG so I’m waiting on a sale for that one as well. Finally, Mechwarrior 5 but I’m also holding off on a sale for that one.

Yes your CPU will absolutely bottleneck you for Control and RDR2

Thanks for the heads up/confirmation on those. I’ll keep them as enticements/treats for when the day finally comes I can afford to build a new PC, lol. Any thoughts on the others?

I really liked Anno and Outer Worlds. Avoid Incestors. It’s terribad and aimless. I don’t know how well OW would run on your system can you do the $1 GamePass trial? For RDR2 and Control you’d be sub 20 FPS on medium I. 1080p

Saw some streams on similar systems, and it looks good, thankfully.

A lot of 2017+ games (and their engines reused in other titles) ported from or co-developed for the existing consoles all demand 4+core/4+ thread CPUs. At the beginning of 2019 I had a (3-4 years newer than your 2500) 4670k haswell with GeForce GTX 1080 Ti that only managed 20-30 FPS in Assasins Creed Odyssey at ALL/ANY detail level from low to ultra.

Changing it to a Ryzen 7 2700 doubled the frame rate for me in ultra on the same video card. All the games are CPU thread bottlenecked. The Ryzen’s single thread IPC performance was only equal to the 6 year old Haswell too so I was worried when “upgrading” to it.

The Outer Worlds was awesome, if you enjoyed Fallout 3/New Vegas you’ll love it.

RDR2 is supposed to scale down pretty well. You can run it at 1080p no problem. Maybe not 1080p at highest settings, but it’ll be playable and higher framerates than the consoles’ 30fps.

Dan, in case you are unaware, you get another coupon from any purchase the coupon applies to. Just buy one at a time.

Since they don’t have a shopping cart function haha

I wouldn’t oversell it. Some of it was done quite well, like the companion quests. I even enjoyed the story overall. It does have some weaknesses that may or may not bother some people. I felt the combat was repetitive, companion upgrades were less than exciting in many cases, too much crap loot. Probably others too. Not to say it’s not worth playing. I mostly enjoyed it. I just thought it didn’t deserve such strong praise - pretty far from GOTY material for me. Obvious disclaimer - just my opinion :-)

I wouldn’t call it a perfect game by any means, but I stand by “awesome”.
