I expect Ubisoft has metrics suggesting that overall revenue is higher when they offer their product in multiple stores, even for big games like The Division 2. So they’re putting it on the Epic Store due to its smaller cut.

And if they were given money up front, it was probably a win-win situation.

Wouldn’t the Division 2 have qualified for Steams 20% AAA developer discount thing?

Maybe Ubisoft wants Steam to bleed a little.

I think all they have to do there is not sell it on Steam, not necessarily sell it elsewhere.

Propping up Epic hurts Steam, too.

I really don’t see how it hurts Steam to sell it on EPIC and uPlay and not Steam vs. selling it only on uPlay? What am I missing?

Steam would be weakened, long-term, if they had a viable competitor. Epic may be that, so giving them some content to prop them up at the start is a risk to Steam.

It’s not about the margins on this one game, it’s about helping Epic gain market share early on. And that’s three posts explaining my baseless speculation, so I’ll leave it there ;)

I guess I’m not seeing how that helps Ubisoft out, even long term, given EPIC would be a uPlay competitor just as much as Steam is. But I am way out of my depth on this one.

Well Ubisoft has a shit store, but they’re still a big publisher. If they like Epic better, like plan on releasing their game there and even exclude Steam, that’s still something. That’s not a minor thing.

I see this opinion quite often. Other that not being Steam, what’s so bad about it? It seems to launch and update the few games I own on it just fine.

They did give away a bunch of free Assassin’s Creed games which I’ve mostly enjoyed, so maybe I’m inclined to be generous, but I’m not sure where the UPlay hate comes from.

Aside from the fact that oh somewhere between a third or fifty percent of the time i try to do something in their application it takes me to their website to login separately like i am not being directed their from freaking app which they supposedly run to do it there instead. Are you looking for an actual list? I don’t it will be short.

“The Division 2 has more PC preorders than the original, despite skipping Steam”
Gooooooood. Steam fans, let the hate flow through you…
evil emperor laugh

Seems Metro Exodus PC physical copies have EPIC store stickers on the back covering up the STEAM info. :D

Saw it over on ResetERA

It is true. I ripped it off the moment I saw that it was a sticker. It was quite satisfying! :D

I got the Aurora edition for free due to some fuck up. I canceled my order, got my money back, but they still sent it to me. So now I have steam version and a bonus of aurora edition. Coolio.

If you remove the sticker does the game work via STEAM?

;)

Hah I actually have an epic code available here… :p

Called it lol.

The evil empire reference to steam is funny given the partial ownership of Epic.

It wouldn’t be a console war without the pettiness.

Hey, we didn’t even make it a page without someone bringing up Tencent again.
