Game Music 4: Thunderdome Eternal

Wow. I adore the Anno 1800 theme (and Anno music in general) but that Outcast piece is gorgeous too. Nice pick @Gordon_Cameron!

The music from Outcast was especially spectacular when it came out. I don’t remember a full symphonic score in a game before that.

It’s a game I unfortunately missed in its day. I can easily imagine that score would have had an impact, though.

I think my brother and I would have been all over it back in the day but we knew after playing the demo that our computer wasn’t really good enough. I remember the crunch of snow underfoot and the general feeling of it being cold, yet Cutter Slade(…?) happily dives into the icey cold pools!

It was a rare game that my computer could run reasonably well at the time, because the voxel engine obviated the need for a 3D card (which I didn’t have yet). I played it then, didn’t beat it, have revisited it (and the remaster/update version) from time to time. It’s on my ‘someday I’ll play it through properly’ list…

Same here, and with the scoring too!

Really strong round, I love that ‘Gods Will Be Watching’ track. Also Outcast giving me a strong Lawrence of Arabia vibe.

Where DID this goth-synth masterpiece even come from, @krayzkrok?? I am–as the kids say–vibin’.

Apparently at some point I put this on my wishlist! Now I’m looking forward to it even more!

Really enjoyed Talanzaar and Hyperspace (or: partyspace). The Outcast OST has such a lush, grand and classic sound to it. Bonus points for the duduk too!

The Group H results have landed:

1. Outcast - Talanzaar: 3.82
2. Gods Will Be Watching - The Face of Genocide: 3.73
3. Anno 1800 - Main Theme: 3.64
4. Star Control II - Hyperspace Theme: 3.45

@Hansey I think I prefer the live version for KK’s singing, whistling and guitar solo! And ‘Oh ohhhhhh’ always cracks me up :-)

Haha, fair enough. That’s one of the reasons I included the link to both… they’re very different considering it’s the same song!

Forgot to post the results last night for Group I:

  1. After Death - Cemetery: 3.56
  2. Icewind Dale - Easthaven in Peace: 3.33
  3. Murder By Numbers - The Digital Detective: 3.33
  4. Guilty Gear XX - Blue Water, Blue Sky (May’s Theme): 3

8 hours to go on Group J.

Aaand Group J’s results are in:

1. Dark Souls 2 - Majula: 3.9
2. Disco Elysium - Krenel, Downwell, Somatosensor: 3.7
3. R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 - Naked Glow: 3.5
4. Animal Crossing: New Leaf / New Horizons - K.K. Groove: 2.9

Look at all those clean numbers!

I was disappointed to see Naked Glow tanking early on but it gained some ground towards the end there so I’m glad some folks dug it!

We’ve got two more groups to go then it’s on to the elimination bracket.

Hmm, some last minute sniping there. Last I looked Disco Elysium was (deservedly, IMO) well ahead.

It’s never over until, uh, Tina Turner sings!

I thought it was the best track in that group.

The Dark Souls contingent is strong! I think they just weighed in late.
