I showed that enterprise case to a friend who’s building a new system and wanted to waste a bit of money. He said “It’s nice but I’m not really a star trek fan.” 25 years and I did not know. He probably likes Star Wars or something.
Man, I gotta tell y’all, as I get closer to actually DOING this – the EVGA card I pre-ordered should be shipping soon, I hope – I keep having all these niggling anxieties about it, such as (stuff in parentheses is me self-talking my anxiety down):
What if the video card doesn’t fit into the case? (According to the specs of the case and the card, it should be fine.)
What if there’s not enough room for the sound card? (Then maybe you’ll be okay without one, even though you really like having one.)
What if the mobo doesn’t have enough USB ports? (It looks to have at least as many as the one you currently have, if not one or two more.)
What if you can’t mount all the monitors? (You’ve got a solid plan for that. Trust in the plan. You’ll adapt otherwise.)
So yeah, I’m super excited that this is all actually happening but AHHHHHHHHH.
If the card fits in a PCI-E slot, then it shouldn’t be a problem. If it’s a PCI card then that’s trickier, but you can still find motherboards with PCI slots.
Are the MIDI units for gaming? Do you need the sound card for MIDI out? Not sure how that works TBH.
They sure are. You haven’t played TIE Fighter until you’ve done so with the original MIDI soundtack.
The MIDI unit goes into the line-in port on the sound card. Not sure if motherboards have that, plus I’m something of a nut for sound, so I like having a dedicated sound card.
I know I’m being silly, but this makes me nervous. This is the mobo I’m getting:
As you can see, the PCI-E slot is juuuust under the video card slot, so like I said, I’m likely being silly and it’ll likely all fit together just fine, but it just makes me a tad anxious is all.
