Given your “doubts” list and the fact that you have kids who play, I would recommend skipping:

Shadow of War - I know it seems counter-intuitive to skip a AAA title, but given the bargain history of Shadow of Mordor (you can get the complete bundle with all DLC for $5 pretty much weekly) I suspect that should you want to play this at a later date it will be available for a bargain basement price with all of it’s DLC (which this version does not include).

Trailmakers - While it’s the sort of game your kids might find interesting for a while, it also looks like a title that will be in half a dozen Fanatical and Humble bundle offerings within 6 months.

Hope that helps.

Just a reminder; if people have been diligent with the freebies on Epic, you already have Bad North

It does! I followed your sound advice. Thanks.

I do collect the freebies, but I don’t bother installing the Epic launcher (or, for that matter, Origin or Uplay) on my machines, and effectively any game I have that isn’t on Steam or GOG is one I don’t own (or at least don’t see).

Pretty much my pattern too, but I would recommend Mages of Mystralia as a decent little fixed perspective (connecting zones) 3D action-adventure game. Played it on XB1.

Actually that makes sense. Thanks. Plus I got Bad North from EGS, so that is 10 already.

Shadow of War was a dour, humorless game. I felt bad for the Orcs pretty quickly into it.

New monthly bundle is up:

These new bundles have really stepped it up. May have something to do with the greater visibility, harder to shovel crap into the bucket.

So what’s the two I shouldn’t get? I don’t have a single one of these titles, yet.

Frostpunk and Pathfinder : Kingmaker were both on my wishlist, so I about fell over when the reveal this month included both. Even if I don’t play any of the other games, that’s like getting those two for $6 each.

I really liked Book of Demons, enough that it made my list of Top 5 games of 2019 (yes, I know it came out in Dec of 2018).

As to what NOT to choose…

  • Cryofall is an online MMO, so if that turns you off then there is choice #1.
  • Eliza is a visual novel about an AI counseling program and it’s developers and users. If you yawned just reading that then it’s probably choice #2. (Note : No insult intended as Eliza is supposed to be a very good game in it’s genre, it’s just not a genre that appeals to everyone)
  • The Hex is available along with 7 other games in the Hidden Gems Bundle at Fanatical that I linked in one of my Bargain Thread posts. It’s also highly likely to be $1.00 on sale at any given point in time, so there is a choice #3.

Eliza is my #1, I still haven’t bought it, so just because of this I will be in. But I own Frostpunk, Pathfinder, and Book of Demons.

I can’t remember the last time I played a visual novel but I love Zachtronics, so just based on the strength of their writing in the rest of their games I want to check it out. That plus all the stellar reviews.

Just want to say, if you skip The Hex in this bundle, do make sure to pick it up elsewhere. I really enjoyed it, it’s clever and interesting, from the Pony Island folks. RPS said in their review: “while The Hex doesn’t quite reach Pony Island’s feeling of a near-perfect package, it’s a far bigger, more complicated, and astoundingly ambitious game”

The fact that the reviewer liked Pony Island and lavished that praise on it, I’m pretty sure I won’t like Hex, so that IS helpful. :D

Eliza is very, very good. It is totally a visual novel, but it has high production values (especially great voice acting) and a smart story. I would only pass on it if purely narrative experiences really aren’t your thing.

Eliza is indeed great. Just the right length, too. I really enjoyed it.

WOW! I’m very pleased with these choices and can’t wait to play Eliza.

Made by Zachtronics! I had no interest in it until I found out who made it.

I’ve wanted to try Frostpunk, Kingmaker and Eliza, so this is a great month for me. I picked up The Hex in the winter sale and now wish I had waited.

I do have Frostpunk on my wishlist, and apparently it comes with the first expansion (not the one that just came out, unsurprisingly). I already own Book of Demons and Shenzhen I/O. I might play Eliza, just because of the Zachtronics pedigree. I might checkout Okami, Hex, and Night Call. So, probably worth it.

What is Under Hero? Is it an Undertale rip-off?

Good bundle this month! Been eyeing Pathfinder Kingmaker for months now.

I just canceled my subscription.

Shenzhen I/O is great. I played 100+ hours of it.

Frostpunk is the one I might buy. It’s been discounted to $10 already.

I finished Okami about 13 years ago. It’s a beautiful Zelda-like that’s fun for a while, but you’re really playing as the god of endless trash collecting and fetch quests.

Project Warlock is on my wishlist, but I don’t need it. There’s a demo on Steam.

Book of Demons’ demo left me cold, and I don’t care about the rest.

CryoFall is in early access.
