In an early attempt to jump start my New Year’s resolutions, I went out and bought a laptop from Best Buy, though I didn’t do any research until I got there and am looking for some additional confirmation that it was a good buy (or at least not a bone headed stupid one), before I crack it open.

It as this ASUS for $800. The site will say $1050, but it was on sale at the store.

Generally speaking, an ASUS is never a bone headed stupid buy. Dunno about price levels in your neck of the woods, but ASUS get high marks for quality and reliability. So even if you could get, say, an Acer with the same specs and price, the ASUS is still the better deal. Specs look OK too.
