Ken Burns' The Vietnam War on PBS

A great book. It also explains why we can never win militarily in the middle east. The truths of that book cover way more than just the Vietnam War.

I watched this couple months back and still think about it from time to time, truly riveting documentary, tears were shed. I don’t watch a lot of documentaries but this one was definitely worth it.
What an insane clusterfuck this has been! On so many sides.

Hi guys, Karl Marlantes was featured heavily in the documentary and his ebook is the deal of the day at Amazon.
Matterhorn: A Novel of the Vietnam War - Kindle edition by Marlantes, Karl. Literature & Fiction Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com.

Matterhorn is my third-favorite book about Vietnam, behind A Bright Shining Lie and The Forever War

Buy this book!

I thought The Forever War was a sci-fi. Matterhorn is great, for sure.

It is. But since its Joe Haldeman’s response to his Vietnam experience…

He also wrote about Vietnam in the first person. I recommend War Year. I haven’t read any of the others.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone! I will add those to my list.

I also recommend The Best and the Brightest, although sometimes Halberstam’s detailed digressions can get a little cumbersome.

I sadly haven’t read this one yet. A Bright Shining Lie brutalized me enough.
