Do you mean specifically as a subject of video games or just in general because, well…
Each run takes about 30-40 minutes (30 waves). Your buildings lasts for the entirety of the run. Buildings have 2 type. Passive and active ones. Active ones require you to active it’s power every X number of seconds.
You can unlock new building, spells, advisors (in game passive bonuses).
I know it have Rats. But think about this. These Rats ride Ducks to kill Weasels. I means who like Weasels?
But really Ratropolis is a fantastic game.

Damn, what’d weasels ever do to you.
So cute.
You know, we’ve been referring to the otters we frequently see outside as sea pups or sea ferrets, but I think maybe they should be sea weasels from now on

Those rats look like mice!

Omori, a Earthbound-style JRPG Kickstarter project that’s been in the works for seven years, is finally out on Steam, and fortunately people seem to be really digging it.
(Clicks on Waronoi. Sees that the maps are Voronoi diagrams.)
I don’t know what I expected.
I’ll allow to plug myself into this thread because the Switch one shows little interest for indie games:
I grabbed a little game called Kadobat Wars for it.
The game was absolutely totally ignored when it launched, being from a doujin developer from Japan, with zero marketing budget.
It’s a very simple light strategy games: there are two teams of 3 characters, the one in the front is taking damage and dealing it. Each characters come with a very limited deck of skills that can affect themselves or other, or the other team.
It all goes into a very fast paced wacky rotation, which feels like what a Japanese dodgeball game powered by Slay the spire cards and controls might feel.
It’s probably not very smart, but it sure is a fun little distraction, and the price is mightily right.
I have no idea if the English localization is any good, so I won’t take any blame if it’s broken :O
Also, the design of the characters is just wonderful.

A small deduction game clearly inspired by Return of the Obra-Dinn, where you’re gathering clues from a few different sources to fill out the rosters of imaginary London pop bands from 30 years ago.
Can be played in the browser for free, won’t take very long, and the use of music is neat.
Are you old? Do you remember Defenders of the Crown by Cinemaware? Do you remember it fondly?
You should definitely get this. It is fully “inspired by” Defenders of the Crown and does evoke a lot of the same type of gameplay but improves on that original in every way I can think of. The basic gameplay is a combination of overland turn-based strategy, risk style, and tactical turn–based battles. There is a little lite-RPG, a bit of economic development and some event based mini-games too. Absolutely fun.
Say! I’M really old!
Inspired by Defender of the Crown, huh? Say no more!
And if you’re REALLY old, you’ll recall that Swords and Sandals was a term used in Hollywood in the 50s to describe a genre for movies like Ben Hur and Spartacus. Gladiator is a modern ‘swords and sandals’ movie.

I am old but not old enough to use that term. I did steal it and called the rash of fantasy movies in the 80’s Sword and Board flicks.

Those were mostly just sword. Not a lot of boards to be seen in the 80s.
