It is also on Steam Greenlight

I’m lacking any solid information, but am overflowing with interest. I’ll try the demo out at some point, but others have already attested to it being rather good. A lot of RPSers complained about the Unity of Command type busts, but I don’t see that as an issue. They even change appearance based upon armament and armor.

I’m buying that as soon as it’s available.

But… but your ownly specialty is space games! You can’t deviated from that!

Cries in a corner because Brian is playing a fantasy game

Yeah, that does look pretty cool, and not pixel art to boot! :)

I love all kinds of games man! Why limit oneself? ;-)

Hey, Battle Brothers looks pretty good. It’s got my Greenlight vote.

It’s funny, but while the half-people in Unity of Command never bothered me, here it’s vaguely creepy. Maybe because the overall look is more cartoonish.

I’ll start my first thread ever when this game gets on Kickstarter (they are still shooting for 9/22). I was checking out their devlog on IndieDB, when I came across this discussion.

I’m getting a serious Black Company vibe.

I’m really happy that you picked up on that, the Black Company has been a huge influence on pretty much everything I’ve worked on. A lot of the late-game agents have certain similarities with my favorite Taken, not to mention that there IS a way to corrupt heroes that is conceptually similar, and absolutely rewarding to do (though we’re still balancing it).

I’m going to guess… Soulcatcher? Or maybe the Limper?

Also that sounds pretty awesome. I’ll feel bad to destroy the in universe equivalent to the Black Company :P

I take it the evil in the game is more of the ‘evil’ in the Black Company where it’s actually just as bad as everything else?

kingdinosaurgameskingdinosaurgames Jul 4 2014, 11:21pm replied:
Haha, well the evil that you represent is absolute - think along the lines of the Dominator, which is why so much of the game is trying to delude the heroes and nations that you don’t exist, that it is just another one of those “evils” that is understandable and manageable.

In fact, in The North Burns (the scenario that will be released with the demo) there is The Golden Republic of Toln, from which you can recruit mercenaries to serve you under the guise of one of your agents. Mercenaries will fight for gold without question, unless global awareness rises to the point where they say “even we have our limits” in which case you can lose them, sometimes catastrophically(although there are fun ways to bind armies to you) - giving you almost a Black Company narrative.

They have a bunch of videos up as well if you want to see the current state of the game. They also say there will be a demo released with the Kickstarter. That is a lot to look forward to.

Nice mentions guys, thanks for the heads up on those, and remember if you know the game is good (as in played it etc) then we should use the other indie game thread (link in first post).

So a piratical game from the guys that are doing Starbound, it is probably worth knowing about :)

Ori and the blind forest video

I hope it isn’t impolite to post this in here, since we’ve been talking about it and in the Kickstarting thread.

They’ve launched their brand new Kickstarter campaign and have submitted That Which Sleeps for Steam’s Greenlight program. Please consider supporting them so they can fund this amazing game. - I’ve simply reworded their email to me, so I can’t guarantee it is truly an amazing game, but it sure looks that way.

They’re anticipating releasing the game in March, 2015. That is completely feasible, as they are simply trying to raise $12,000 for hiring an artist. They’ve claimed it should be a breeze to swap out their placeholder art with the new assets and get the game out. They’ve already have $4495 in the first day.

In case you haven’t been following this thread, this is a game where you get to try to conquer the world as a conniving, ancient, evil sentience. Think of yourself playing as Cthulu or Sauromon. The creator is a big Black Company fan, so he likened the titular role to the Devestator. You are supposed to be able to create minions similar to the Taken and hire your own Black Company mercenary band. Even more info can be found on their Devlog.

I’d love to support this. How do you get to Greenlight now? I can’t find it anywhere in the new design.

The link above should take you right to this game’s Greenlight page.

The Price of Freedom, looks interesting (but not had time to try it myself yet):

Double whammy of potentially interesting indie games, first up is Environmental Station Alpha (it has great evocative music!):

And the next seems to be a free ware 8bit/16bit inspired racer (like Outrun or those Lotus games), and it’s FREE!(and made in the AGS!!??!!!):

Just played it for 30 seconds. Did NOT trigger any nostalgia nodes, probably because I never played driving games from this era to begin with. I think I went from Tiger Handhelds to arcade games to race sims.

Yeah i think this one is all about that nostalgia kick, and if you don’t have that history it may feel pretty weak? (it IS pretty weak, as most racing games are at some level) It is a free nostalgia kick though.

It’s taken a while to see 2D Dark Souls games. Ska Studios appears to be developing one called Salt and Sanctuary. Don’t tell WarpRattler they’re calling it a Soulsvania game! (Just teasing – it sounds like they really do care about Castlevania in this case.)

PS4 exclusive for now but they will bring it to PC eventually. I’m still waiting for them to port Vampire Smile. I have no idea if his games have been any good since the Zombie Smashers days.

…or even just drags you down and stuffs you in his fridge (which is the roots of the tree he hangs out under) for later.

Oh…one of those common myths then? Well i suppose that is a good thing, it seemed a slightly sinister thing to do really.

I think we have mentioned The Curious Expedition before, and here is some more news and a trailer about it on the RPS link etc:

I do love me some victorian themed adventures, and this might be right up that alley?
