That’s a bummer. I had been looking forward to it.
That said, my 12yo daughter who plays Minecraft way more than I do was unconcerned at the news: “I didn’t like the new textures anyway”, she said.
Does anyone have the link to super-duper graphics ceasing development? Can’t seem to find it.

Haven’t had a chance to watch the whole video at work. But I sadly assume my antique PCs will not be able to handle that.
Looks cool, then in about 3 years we will have decent mod support for it.
MS cancels the Super Duper Pack because some platforms couldn’t run it or run it well, and thus that was a dealbreaker. And then the following week, they unveil RTX-exclusive graphics that only a tiny percentage of users (those with latest-gen Nvidia cards on PCs) can run.

Perhaps nVidia wrote the RTX ray tracing code themselves and provided it to Microsoft. That’s the only way I can make sense of this.
Sure, it’s still stupid. It sounded like Super Duper was done, they just couldn’t get it to run well on every platform. But nevermind. PC players with brand-new Nvidia cards, here, improved graphics just for you.
Yeah, if an optional graphics update was done it should be released.
So now that I’ve actually watched the video, at about 1:52 minute mark:
Based on nVidia’s previous behavior this also basically guarantees ray tracing will only ever work on nVidia hardware even after AMD and Intel vid cards support ray tracing.
Well, that sucks
Keep in mind this is also only for the native code Windows 10 version. That said, there are shader mods for the Java version already that provide a similar level of detail. Not hardware driven to this degree of course, but still pretty darn good.
Maybe it’s just me, but this just looks so wrong in minecraft… It just hits me as the worst mash up of art styles.
