MLB The show (22) tonight!

It’s Risk, but the battles are baseball games.

Expand until you run out of counters. Think of early Civ expansion. Rush like crazy cut off large blocks of blank spaces from your enemies. Then skip phase until you come up to reinforce. Add all the counters to one stack where you can continue expanding. In early game do this like 4x. The AI is always building up his territory which means you can expand twice as fast as they do. When you’re u feel you have a good bit more territories than the AI, start making sure the territories that butt up against the AI have half the number of units he has next to them. So when he attacks he is likely to lose much of his stack. If he takes some of your territory it’s usually no big deal as you can take it back easily. The move phase means you can go to one hex and move its contents to another hex, leaving 1 behind as always.

Every 3 spaces you own gives you an extra counter.

As this is my first time playing MLB the show I’m suprised how awful the UI and presentation is in the game. I’m specifically talking about Diamond Dynasty as that’s all I’ve played. The menu system is boring is functional but boring big blue rectangles. The pack opening animation is really lame. It feels like something I’d expect from an indie game and not a AAA publisher that has done this for multiple years.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m really enjoying the game itself and the in game presentation is great, is just shocking to compare the UI on this to something like NBA2k21 which I’m also playing right now.

They overhauled the menus this year and I agree they are terrible. They are also way behind 2k in presentation for sure. The commentary is IDENTICAL to the last 3-4 years. And it wasn’t good then let alone now.

They need a new coat of paint badly, but with the pandemic I have a feeling that will be a few years out.

The servers were finally fantastic yesterday. Got a lot done. Was doing the same today and… now the PlayStation servers are down! Agghhh!

I play on Xbox 1, and the servers have been down all night. It’s super frustrating that I can’t jump in and play some conquest whenever I want. They need to fix this shit.

I hesitate to go look at Operation Sports so I’ll ask here: I play MLB The Show purely as a pitcher career simulator, so RTTS only, starting in the minors and seeing what kind of career I can create for my pitcher. How is this version, purely for that? Any killer bugs at this point? I’ve skipped the last 3 versions.

For RTTS, yes. Progression is very bugged.

Holy crap, you’re talking about MLB The Show, right?

If that’s a game mode in a sports game… holy moly.

Sure is!

It’s an interesting little diversion packed full of rewards for Diamond Dynasty players.

Thanks, I’ll wait.

Conquest is a great mode for people that don’t want to get curb stomped by 15 year olds with twitch reflexes. I remember when it first came out I was playing EVERY game and wondering why it took forever to get through a map. I actually do the steal the fans part and for me it seems to go faster doing it that way. Otherwise the CPU builds these gigantic stacks that I have to sim over and over to kill. I generally win like 90% of my games that I play on AS so that will of course make it go faster.

I just wish I was 20 years younger and had a lot more patience. Online just makes me go insane. They hit everything and I can’t hit anything.

Actually, I’m not sure it was a bug. It may have been because of the servers. Now that they’re stable and don’t crash out, it might be able to record your progress now. I’m going to test it today.

Progression isn’t bugged - it’s just slower if all you’re playing is RTTS. I’m in season 3 (2nd in the majors) and I’m up to 81 overall.

This isn’t to say that RTTS doesn’t have it’s issues. For example, you will never be able to progress beyond having 3 pitches. You can change what those 3 pitches are, but you can’t ever add a fourth.

I mean, I haven’t played RTTS yet, so I can’t vouch for it, but the forums/Reddit are full of people saying programs aren’t tracking progression in RTTS consistently if at all. It’s not that you can’t progress at all, it’s that you’re not going to get what you should from programs.

When did that change occur? I always eventually developed 4 pitches when playing RTTS in the past versions.

Really? Not even when you get all your perk stuff upgraded? That’s stupid. I hope they’ll change that.

I don’t know when it changed, since I haven’t played this game since, I dunno, 13 maybe? I only got this version because it’s finally out on XBox One (and I’d have bought a Series X first, but can’t find one anywhere).

But yeah - if you search for it, that’s something new (I guess) to this version. I’m hoping they fix it as well.

I can confirm that as of the patch that dropped this morning, you can add a fourth (and fifth) pitch to your RTTS pitcher in a bullpen session.

Thanks for the heads up. Seems like it might be safe to venture into RTTS now. Patch notes:
