How dumb do you have to be to do something like this? Odds of success, very low, odds of getting incarcerated for life: high.

The President/Governor doesn’t open packages. You might blow up some dude in the mail room if you’re crazy lucky.
Yeah good point, I guess the unabomber had success with mail bombs since he was targeting very low level people who don’t have those kinds of handlers / security processes in place.
He also used booby traps that looked like other things as well, like a couple of blocks of wood with nails in them by someone’s tire that was actually a bomb or the like. It wasn’t all mail bombs, though I think eventually they became that.
