Phoenix Point - new Julian Gollop turn-based strategy game

Are items left on dead people automatically added to my inventory when I complete the mission, or do I need to go pick them all up?

I have all the DLC. I’m playing without any for my first game. I think I might start this first game over since I didn’t know what I was doing. Is there a DLC that doesn’t make the game harder?

Do you dual class all your soldiers?

In the bases. Does having the same rooms next to each other give you a bonus? Can you expand the number of rooms in a base?

Not necessarily, as claiming them requires resources. But as I mentioned further up, you don’t need to expand them all that much. They’re mostly for radar coverage, though some extra labs and manufacturing won’t hurt in the long run.

The Trades are rigged in your favour. You can’t “lose” resources that way from what I recall. Of course, there’s different deals, so you’ll want to take the better ones. You always trade one resource for a different one, with varying ratios.

IIRC you need to unlock trading first - it’s a pretty early research related to the havens and also unlocks the options to recruit soldiers there, which gives you access to the factions specialists - Infiltrators, Engineers and Berserkers. On lower difficulties, they come already equipped, so you can just reverse engineer their stuff once you get enough of it.

Tech has the highest priority and is hardest to come by. Food has the lowest priority.

I’ve broken down the DLCs a bit further up:

In general, dual-classing soldiers makes sense since you can get some beautifully broken combos that way.

No adjacency bonuses or digging with the bases, so use what you have and build what you need.

Unsure on the autolooting of corpses. I think the missions where you must evacuate will ditch whatever’s not taken, while the ones where you clear an area will autoloot enemies and dead soldiers alike.

I’d avoid all the DLC in your first run through, lots of busy work and gives you an extremely good reason to have another run through in the future.

Here’s a good guide that I think has the basic guidelines and also reviews the DLCs.

Agreed on no DLC until you’re more comfortable with the base game. Especially if you’re in the “I’m not sure what the right thing to do to progress is” as the DLC adds a bunch of new missions to the map that will make it even less clear.

A 1.0 total conversion mod for Phoenix Point was released today, it is called Terror from the Void, the wiki can be found here:

http://wiki.phoenixpoint.com/Terror_from_the_Void

You can download and enable it through the steam workshop. It must be good as it is endorsed by the Phoenix Point team themselves.

If anybody tries it I’d be interested to know if it improves the late game problems with too many events/defense missions/etc making progress slow and monotonous.

From the first glance, it seems mostly a rebalance thing, and from a cursory glance makes things even harder without adding anything really new or interesting. I’ll pass.

Oooh, that does look interesting. Here are the main bullet points:

I was about to start another playthrough, and I’m mildly tempted to jump into this. However, I don’t think I trust my time with an unproven mod just yet. But I’m glad to see people doing total mods for Phoenix Point, especially since it looks like Terra Invicta will never actually come out.

This one has been cooking for a while and is endorsed by the Phoenix Point guys so it may not be that unproven. I might give it a shot this weekend.

Obligatory youtube release video:

Mmm… that name rings a bell

:P

Yes! I spotted that and did wonder @jpinard :)

It is incredibly professional and polished work. They’ve got to be developers themselves.

The mod has been actively tested for the last 18 months and they have been working on the story flow of integrating the DLCs for a while. While I expect there are some bugs, it’s probably no worse than a new game.

This is their patch history, hint last patch before release was patch 60. Discord
