The OP is inaccurate. Nobody I saw on the news coverage is wearing a thousand dollar suit.
From what I saw on the CNN site, it seems the most likely motive is some sort of dispute over child custody, perhaps stemming from a domestic abuse investigation or intervention. In any event, the police shot him through the windshield of the vehicle, so if it was supposed to be bulletproof, well…
