Yay! It’s a bit dated, coming from 2000, but it’s still one of the best in the genre.

I’m going to skip the space theme and recommend that you grab the free and open source Battle for Wesnoth, which is excellent.

p.s. I’m also a MacBook Pro guy. There are tons of Steam games that work just fine on the machine.

That’s not a 4X either. It’s more like Master of Monsters or Advance Wars IIRC.
