Return of the Obra Dinn deserves a thread, matey!

My advice would be:

Explore each scene as fully as you can. Sometimes you can go on to other decks during memories (away from the death scene) that will reveal key info. Look closely and think of the dialogue, body language, proximity/potential relationship to other crew members. Listen out for accents that may reveal someone’s nationality. Note what people are wearing and where they appear, in the sketch and during memories. Sometimes what people say can be enough to clue you in. Cross reference clues to zero in on potential hunches.

The thing with Obra Dinn is that it takes time for all these elements to coalesce into something solid enough to give you answers, but that’s what makes it so exciting and satisfying! Stick with it @newbrof. I will say that I can imagine this game being very difficult if you leave too much time between sessions because it relies on you being able to remember bits and pieces. Often I’d be like ‘Ohhh! That guy said X and that correlates with Y from earlier in the story!’

I’d put all those hints inside a spoiler tag. Figuring out what you’re supposed to pay attention is half the fun.

@newbrof: There should be no “getting stuck” until you’ve seen every scene. You don’t need to identify every person right when it’s technically possible. Just carry on with the game, and you’ll find more people and more information.

after the first six people, I have explored many more scenes, until no new scenes were coming in. Now I left the game on hiatus for a couple of weeks, this makes it hard to come back, but I’ll try…

this is the second time I restarted the game, and I got stuck at the same position in the game, I am probably missing the continuation of the scenes somewhere …

I know for me it wasn’t obvious at first that there’s a context in which you can use the watch that is slightly different than the first one you encounter. Is that maybe the issue?

can you enlighten me in spoiler tags, please? I know that you can use the watch to go back to a scene and then to follow a trail leading to a new corpse. Is there something else?

Ah, yeah sorry. Spoiler tagged.

I’ve been playing this in fits and starts, which also seems to be the way my discoveries come about. Doesn’t help that they’re done in threes, which seems to accentuate the staccato nature of unraveling the mystery, but it’s ok, I can deal.

At this point I’m down to six characters, and I have a sneaking suspicion that four of them survived but then the game expects me to tell it where they are and I mean jeez, I dunno? Somewhere out there? I guess I could be wrong, maybe they weren’t spared the terrible fate of the rest of the crew, but I don’t think so. Still, that leaves me with the dilemma. No, I’m not looking to have an answer thrown at me. I’ve done pretty ok so far on my own.

I haven’t cheated, not as such, though I’ll admit that at times I’ve gamed the system. I’ve used that whole ‘in threes’ system to my advantage sometimes - like I’ve got two I’m sure of and one that I may be missing a detail, I may fudge and brute force a bit. Not often, and I usually am at least on the right track, but some of those three triangle characters are tough. And man, they don’t give you much to work with as far as seamen identification. There’s probably a joke in there.

And I’ll admit that I’m a bit embarrassed how long it took me to ID the helmsman, considering that the artist’s rendition shows him with one hand on the goddamn tiller.

Like you I’m going through it off and on. I love the game but I wish they didn’t make it such a chore to replay scenes. I just want them in a list that I can chew through instead of running all around the goddamn ship. Did I say running? I meant walking. Walking around the goddamn ship.

I will totally rebuy and play again.

I have been holding out for a console release. Can’t wait to finally play it!

Dither me timbers mateys, it’s happening:

Can’t wait!

Will be buying it again, immediately. Hope the port is decent.

DAMN

A++ PUN THERE GEGGIS

Full disclosure: I pinched it from a YouTube comment but it has never left my mind. I’m glad you appreciate it as much as I do! :-D

Do people replay this game?

This person will.

I’m still halfway though it but it was months ago. Not sure how to proceed. Do I try picking up the crumbs or just start over and copy over what I have already.

Start over, I’d say. I lost my way with the mechanics/controls about 90 mins in and started over, it was much better second time round. I think I’d find it hard to pick up halfway through from a story/clue point of view.

The story doesn’t go away though. You can still re-access everything you’ve seen. I’m in the same boat but I couldn’t imagine starting over and having to slog through the whole progression of scenes again if I don’t have to.
