RIM: We have no fucking clue

Ding dong, it’s dead: http://www.pcworld.com/article/3151181/phones/blackberry-hands-its-brand-to-tcl-maker-of-its-last-smartphones.html

If only RIM went all-in on Android in 2009, they could be thriving today. Pour one out for the homies, yo.

:-(

Now only the crap is left.

You know, the very latest Blackberry phones have been great. Possibly the best Android phones for some people. I was planning to look at them seriously next year when it’s time to upgrade.

They’re just rebadged TCL/Alcatel Idol phones with the BB software loadout. Are you talking about those?

Yep, pretty nice hardware and software (as they are Android). Having something built to your spec is not quite the same as a rebadge.

0%! https://www.macrumors.com/2017/02/15/blackberry-hits-zero-market-share/

I remember so, so many Blackberry users thumbing their noses at my first iPhone. Now I thumb my nose at iPhones. It’s a topsy turvy world.

Not much to rejoice about when a superior product loses a “battle” against several shitty ones, but I guess the lowest common denominator will always win out.

Doesn’t help that BB officials made so many mistakes during BB10 release and how Google “sort of” sabotaged it with Google Play Services.

I would imagine the difference is you aren’t thumbing your nose at iPhones while using a BlackBerry. :)

Wouldn’t you need both of your thumbs to type on a BlackBerry?

Really? BB a superior product?

Touche!

I’d like to add that one of their benefits, and failures, was their own network requirement and requirement of enterprise servers. Fuck I don’t miss those.

On Android 7, wish I was on Blackberry OS 10 instead.

Don’t suppose BlackBerry have managed to integrate the hub+launcher etc properly into Android yet, thanks to some limitations with the OS/Software/API.

Blackberry 2017-2018 fail, no Nougat even: http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/12/16/blackberry-cuts-off-updates-priv-right-24-month-promise-ended/

Every Android device manufacturer other than Google screws their users on updates. Not really a blackberry-specific thing. It’s an endemic issue, and has been since the start. Maybe Oreo will fix it, maybe not-- they’ve said they fixed the problem before, after all.

How does RIM still exist?

See the thread title for a good answer to that question. :)
