RIP Steve Priest, bassist for Sweet.

I’ve been on a Sweet kick the last month or so, and have listened to all of their albums at least twice through during that time, apparently in some sort of odd preparation for this.

Previously, vocalist Brian Connolly had his final heart attack in 1997 at age 51. He had previously set some kind of world record for having like 14 cardiac arrests in one night, which he somehow survived. Drummer Mick Tucker died in 2002 of leukemia at age 54. This leaves only one original member remaining, guitarist Andy Scott.

Steve Priest was a great bassist, but also contributed a great deal to the songwriting, and did his fair share of lead vocals as well. Here’s a song he did lead vocal for from the 1978 album Level Headed:
