Sea of Thieves!

Hahaha amazing

Just started playing this with my son and having a great time. Only have run into one aggro ship so far, a galleon running the skull and crossbones flag and sails. We had nothing to steal as we were on the way to our first quest after turning stuff in, so we led them to the edge of the map and the kraken got us both, but not before I boarded them and killed the three of them once. They were complaining in voice chat about us being so mean while they were just trying to fight the kraken. There are no tears as delicious as griefer’s tears.

Oh, nice! Well played.

So this game is fun, and kid friendly, but it does suck for griefers. Every single gaming session I’ve had in the last couple of weeks has ended in being sunk by asshats in their tricked out ship for no reason. You spend an hour digging up treasure, collecting pigs, fighting skeletons, and then some asshole comes along and ruins it.

The griefers are terrible in this game. Avoid like the plague if that bothers you. Really wish they would start some PvE servers or allow you to solo. It’s so frustrating I think I’m gonna move on.

The ship cosmetics have no effect on the ship’s capabilities. Nothing in this game actually changes how your character or ship performs.

This is a PvP game, you have to make peace with that if you want to enjoy it. There are strategies to escape and fend off crews set on robbing you. That being said, turn in frequently.

What meant by “tricked out” is they had dozens of glowing jewels on their ship, which means they have been at it a while.

Weekend update

My crew and I, only 3 of us this time because one guy couldn’t play, flew the Reaper flag Friday night as usual. We were just starting out and trying to stock up on ammo, planks, storage crates, etc, and we spotted a sloop and decided to let them know whose server they were on.

Turns out this sloop was allied with a galleon, who rolled in to defend his little buddy. We broke off the sloop and got into a long protracted battle with the galleon, while the sloop cruised off presumably to cash in or whatever.

Nope, sloop comes back with another sloop and a brigantine in their alliance. Now its our brig against 4 ships. And we are out of ammo, so we’re basically attacking them with bad language. Our strategy shifts to keeping our ship at a range and boarding and stealing their supplies. It’s a long, protracted battle. We were fighting these 4 ships for about an hour.

At one point, I boarded one of the sloops that had 3 guys on it, so at least 1 guy from another ship, and managed to kill them all. It was now my sloop. The tide of the battle turned when I closed on the galleon with the commandeered sloop and unloaded a fully volley of shots and then rammed them, and took all their firebombs and lit both ships on fire. I boarded the galleon, dropped their anchor, ate a stolen pineapple, and filled my pockets with their ammo. My buddy had shooting himself to a fort and loading his pockets, mermaid-ing back, and repeating. We had about 50 cannon balls now, and finished off the galleon.

Turns out we’d been fighting so long that none of the other ships had ammo anymore either. For some reason, they kept fighting, and with our stolen ammo we sunk them all. The Brigantine had all the loot. A 4 ship alliance worth of loot. That they didn’t sell for some reason, probably because they thought they owned the server with a 4 ship alliance. It was double gold weekend and we got 600,000 gold selling all their stuff to the reaper’s hideout (with a tier 5 flag).

1 ship vs 4. Six Hundred Thousand gold. It was a good night.

Good grief, that’s amazing. That sloop board sounds… (chef’s kiss).

Yeah I wish I had been streaming that fight. I don’t stream SoT anymore because my crew and I talk about personal stuff a lot that we don’t necessarily want out on Twitch. Dating stories, family stories, politics, etc.

It is one of those kinds of games, yeah. It’s as much a place to shoot the shit as it is your enemies.

600k gold from one haul?! Holy shit!

I feel this was the best part of the story. :)
Deny them the vitamin C , let them get scurvy.

The amount of loot these clowns had was staggering. They had to have multiple skull forts worth, plus a fleet, and some other 1 off ships to boot. And they didn’t sell it! They decided to try to fight us instead! We counted 10 Skeleton Captain Chests and 10 Skeleton Captain Skulls on top of the piles and piles of gems, crates, lower tier chests, and so on. We had a 2.5 multiplier for our emissary flag and it was double gold weekend, so it was a 5x multiplier on all the loot. I went from 800k to 1.4 mil after turning it all in.

As the brig sank with an entire night’s worth of loot aboard, your alliance’s entire haul stolen by 1 crew of scallywags, I remembered the 2007 Patriots loss to the Giants. Being so favored, and so arrogant, and just losing it all.

Just incredible.

Do you own all the cosmetics, now?

He’s the heartiest pirate now.

Most of the ones you can buy, yes. The Pirate Legend ones are like 300k a pop and I haven’t bought all those yet.

My one crewmate friend is like a SoT super fan, he gets every commendation he can. He even grinded out the Arena ones. He runs around with the Legendary Hunter of the Sea of Thieves title because that one is the hardest to get. Just to flex on people as we’re robbing them. The only title he doesn’t have is for the Shrouded Ghost, that ultra rare megalodon. That guy has about 7 million gold banked and all the available cosmetics, so for him it’s just about running up his score.

Really we do it just for fun. We’re the toxic people that ruin the game for folks like Guap’s wife. I quoted Joker once when we were rolling up on a ship that had already turned in and had nothing to take. This has been our creed ever since

Well I mean, that is kind of the point of the game right?
