So err, Japanese Toilets

O what a relief it is…

Arise toilet thread! So with then coronavirus and the Great North American TP Rush in the news, I thought that a discussion of high tech ass maintenance would be topical. I bring this up because of my increasingly limited range of motion without pain, due to rheumatoid arthritis in my shoulders and hips, my doctor convinced me that it would be a good idea to invest in modern toilet tech ie: a bidet. After a decent amount of research into what will surely evolve into The Three Shells, I ended up going with Bio Bidet. Now I am a guy who likes tech and if I’m getting something like this I want the best there is, so I got their flagship shitter seat the Bio Bidet BB2200. It has all of the bells and whistles, including a built in night lite and heated seating as well as providing a warm water wash on demand due to a ceramic water heater and a blow dryer for yer booty. Ive only had it a day but I have to say it’s pretty awesome. It does a great job of getting you clean and a heated toilet seat is something you don’t know you need in your life until you use one. I never thought I would need a remote control for my toilet seat but well… here we are. Now the BB 2000 is not cheap. At Macy’s the thing goes for over $2500! But the standard price on the internet is $699. Amazon carries it for that price. I did a bit of searching though and found a nearby business in Ypsilanti who sold one to me shipped for just under $500. So no TP hoarding for me. I have entered the wonderful world of high tech booty maintenance.

So they have them in Japan?

You’re right next to me right now! Wish I could stick around after my hospital stay to visit you. Could you link the information on them? I’m going home and I think I have 1 roll of tp and 1 box of Kleenex. Might be using the leaves in my front yard pretty soon lol.

I installed my BB-2000 the other day! It’s nice… but not great. I think the BB-600 might be better. Now, I only used a BB-600 once and that was as a test… I didn’t actually poop. So I could be wrong.

The biggest issue I have is that the BB-2000 stream doesn’t quite line up correctly with my asshole. I have to scoot around a bit on the seat. You can adjust the nozzle, but even the lowest setting, it’s still off a bit (note - I’m a fairly default human male at 5-11" and 210lbs.). The BB-600 seemed to line up perfectly on the default setting. The “massage” feature of the BB-600 was also more noticeable.

The BB-2000 has an “enema” feature which the BB-600 didn’t. But it doesn’t work for me. Maybe it does for porn stars, I don’t know.

There’s an “Auto” button, but its sort of useless. It washes for 30s and dries for 30s. But the first 10s of the wash is the bidet dumping out the cold water and warming up the new water, so you only get 20s of wash. Which isn’t really enough. And drying? 30s is not nearly enough. Pressing the dry button will get you 3m of drying, but even that isn’t quite enough to get you really dry.

And while the BB-2000 probably gets you clean “enough,” I like to be… extra clean. And I find that I still kinda have to wipe afterwards anyway.

I ordered the BB-2000 after trying the BB-600, which was a life-changing experience. I figured the BB-2000 would be way better. But I have my doubts.

Yeah, we have two models. We have one of the cheaper Bio models (still has heated seats and water, but no remote or night lite), and a Toto w/ similar features. Had them about a year now. And they’re pretty great.

Got them after a trip to Japan, and feeling - much like Jim Gaffigan said about them - that Japan has taken one of the worst experiences as a human being - going to the toilet - and fixing it (not a direct quote, but as near as I can remember him saying).

Didn’t want to shit up the other threads. (Oh it’s from 2015. Still funny).

I had a much different experience. After a bit of fine tuning, my BB2000 lines up great. I get no cold water out of mine, its instantaneously warm. It took me a bit to dial everything in but I get a pretty good clean from it now. I agree that the Auto function is not very useful. Anyway, I’ve used a small bit of TP a few times, mostly to check and I am happy with the job it does. The 3 minute dryer cycle seems to do the job for me as well. One caveat, this is the first bidet I have ever used so my frame of reference is limited.

Well perhaps the next time I am on the west side of the state Ill try to visit. It would be cool to meet and I would love to see the frop bog.

Heres the bidet I purchased: https://biobidet.com/products/bliss-bidet

The company I bought mine from Many Bidets in Ypsilanti but they no longer have it on sale unfortunately. They do barter on prices through an online chat or text so if you’re interested you can ask them for the price I got, which was $497- shipping included.

I was lucky that after a trip to Japan 4 or so years ago some toto washlet’s were on sale on slickdeals. I never installed both (need to add an outlet in tiny master bath), so should prob see if a friend needs one in these times.

Which do you like better?

One thing I was wondering. Is going to the bathroom at a gas station an even more traumatizing experience now that you’re spoiled? If so do you have PTTD (post traumatic toilet disorder)?

Heh - I only use bathrooms at gas stations if they have a fairly big mini-mart attached to it. None of those ‘grab a key, walk around back’ places. And most of them are, at least, not a breeding ground for another pandemic.

As for the two models we have - I prefer the Toto, but it’s an extended model, so there’s a little more room for, um, things. Functionally, they’re pretty much the same.

Arise!

I’m considering a bidet attachment as a gift for my wife. I’ve been reviewing reviews.

I’m unclear on how some say they are non-electric and yet offer adjustable water temperatures. A normal toilet will only have a cold water line running to it, so how do they get warm water?

Also, any new recommendations? I’ve looked at these reviews and BJ’s has a variety of Brondell models listed, but I trust you guys more than any outside source.

Just to be clear, are you looking for an actual full seat bidet or one of the less expensive “attachments”? Because there are several good bidet options but the “attachments” are real hit or miss and I’ve heard that they are more miss than hit.
My brother bought a name brand attachment ( cant remember the brand though ) and was disappointed. He ended up putting that in his “guest bathroom” and bought an actual seat bidet. He is very happy with the seat Bidet. I believe he got an Alpha from Amazon. Myself I got a Bio Bidet 2200 one of their top ( and somewhat pricier models ) and think that it is fantastic. I really wish I had made the change years before I did. One bonus with a quality seat bidet is the heated seat. You have no idea how awesome one is until you have one.

I really don’t know yet, but thanks for his feedback. I can’t say I want to spend the kind of money you did up thread, but we will have to see what I can find at what price.

There are many good models that run less than I paid. I did get a good price on mine though, believe it or not. They currently run for $699 on Amazon. The one my brother got, the Alpha iX Hybrid Bidet runs for about half of what I paid and it has all of the important features. Bio Bidet also has less expensive models including some under the $300 price point that are pretty well reviewed.

One thing that I wanted to mention. If you’re looking for a less expensive seat, one of the high end functions that tend to get cut is the air dryer function. I wouldnt worry too much about that function though. Its not all that effective. It helps a bit but air dryers need you to spread the moisture by rubbing, much like a hand dryer does, to really work well and that makes it more of a luxury than a necessity.

Don’t go to the wrong tushy site like I did.

LOL.5

The non-electric ones require a hot water line run from the sink.

I can’t speak to the ones listed in that link, but I own a “Clean Sense dib-1500R” that I installed in my new house when I moved in 2015. The remote eats AA batteries a little quickly but other than that it has worked great. Wife liked it so much we have two. One in the master bath and one in the half bath off the home office. So it has proven high WAF.

My prior house had a Kohler Numi toilet (which was briefly featured in the “what have you fixed lately” thread). While wonderful and quite the conversation piece it did inform my decision to just get a seat type bidet instead when I had to buy a new house. Having the porcelain and the electronics totally separate is the way to go to avoid later headaches.

We have both Toto and Bio Bidets. They both work well. I like the Toto one a little better, but both work well, and I think the latter is a little cheaper. And was easier to find in the ‘regular’ size (vs ‘extended’). I will say the ‘regular’ size felt a little constraining on the boys, which is why I swapped the toilet next to my office out for an extended one. But even the regular sized ones are better than nothing.
