Me either!

New dispatch today y’all, big news is some new small space games we found, plus apparently new DLC is coming for BSG Deadlock as they’re looking for beta testers for it.

Brian, What game is the first picture? I don’t think I’ve seen that one before?

Distant Worlds!

I signed up for the beta of Worbital that Brian mentioned in one of his dispatches. https://worbital.tumblr.com/post/181922632086/betas-back-again

This round of the beta lasts until wednesday.

I’ve only played one game but I’m already in love. You have a planet that orbits a sun. You have around 8 slots to build structures, like missiles that that are affected by gravity that you can launch at other players, refinieries to make more money, certain types of shields, etc. The game takes place in real time.

The cool thing is how varied it is in terms of weapon types and mechanics. There are weapons that will destabilize the orbit of other planets, a planetary grappling hook thing, black holes that you can launch, orbital boosters that will push you faster on your orbit, etc. There’s even a spaceship you can control yourself after you launch it, and a certain high tier item that will colonize other planets (you normally just have one planet per game).

You can get a beta key if you go to their discord and ask for one.

Ohhh, have yet to try Worbital, but glad to hear you’re liking it so!

Another SGJ podcast another game on my wishlist. Seriously though Star Dynasties sounds really cool (shame about the name though).

Hah, it’s hard to come up with good names these days, I think. You have either a bit too safe (Star Dynasties) or so long as to be hard to remember (Alliance of the Sacred Suns).

The acronym may prove helpful.

Bahahahha

In other news, new GC3 expansion coming.

How is Gal Civ III?

For context, I thought Gal Civ 1 was pretty neat. It took me a while to get used to how it does space differently from the Master of Orion games. And once I got used to the new system, I started to appreciate it for what it was and not compare it to MOO2, and started enjoying it. But just as I started doing that, Gal Civ 2 came out, so I bought that.

Gal Civ 2, it turned out, was more like MOO2 than Gal Civ 1, but they had a technology tree that was Laser 1, Laser 2, Laser 3, Laser 4, Laser 5, Laser 6, Laser 7, Laser 8, etc. Mass Driver 1, Mass Driver 2, Mass Driver 3. I mean, talk about purposely boiling down your tech tree to the essentials and constantly reminding the players of your lack of creativity. I just hated Gal Civ 2. I heard it got better with expansions, but by that time I’d abandoned all 4X games in favor of MOO2.

It’s not the best ever 4X space game ever in the history of ever, but it’s pretty great, and out of the latest glut of 4X space games over the last few years, it’s the best of them. Fun gameplay with great decisions to make almost every turn.

Did their tech tree get better?

Yeah, definitely more varied now.

Friends’ today’s dispatch has a lot of new games we didn’t know about last time, plus news such as owners of Sirius Online getting the upcoming sequel for free. Thanks for reading!

Friends, today’s dispatch has some new games for y’all to check out, like Meeple Station, plus a big rave about Battlefleet Gothic: Armada II, the beta of which I’ve been just adoring.

Brian if you could… what makes BF: Gothic 2 better than 1? I mean when you get a chance.

So far the interface is better, the AI seems far more competent and the meta map campaign alone is miles above the original game.

I would just like to say that I think you have an awesome voice and I like your videos a lot. Thank you!

Brian
