Star Citizen - Chris Roberts, lots of spaceship porn, lots of promises

Lirik is live-streaming this now.

Wasn’t that the guy that did the video showing the so-called FOIP? Both are funny. As an American, I love to see that people from other countries laugh at the same things that I do.

Hahaha, favorite moment was killing the guy by pouring coffee on his head! :)

Something that heavy, with “wings” that small and un-aerodynamic relative to the bulk of the ship, ain’t gliding anywhere except nose-first into the planet.

When spacecraft are generally portrayed as flying in-atmosphere, it’s usually via stabilizing thrusters and so on, not aerodynamic flight.

I bet this looked hilarious in the studio, when they filmed it.

“ Because everything in this game is about trying to make things that don’t even work by themselves work together with other things”

My favorite line:

I’ve been away for a few months and when I saw that this thread had 500+ new posts, I figured, "Wow, something HUGE must have happened!

But amazingly, we’re still in the same place? Really? Game still isn’t published, nor working (much anyway). They are still selling JPGs. Someone makes a funny video. There are still meaningless completion timelines. People are still buying stuff and saying it’ll be the best ever. Someone writes an article.

And it’s been like this for so long, hasn’t it?

In a fast-changing world, I have to admit it’s comforting to stumble onto a company that can make time stand still for years on end. It’s like Gilligan’s Island, the Game Development Version.

And Gilligan’s Island didn’t even run this long.

Arguably, Gilligan’s Island actually worked, and had an ending/competion state.

Besides, Mary Ann was hot.

Oh what the hell. Let’s go for the big thread derail.

Part 2:

Part 3:

Part 4:

Trying to make a game for 2050 with the technology from 1995.

Kinda already been done.

AmigaCD32™ Respect.

I watched some recent footage on twitch. Honestly, if they were ok with just releasing the game with 20-player or so multiplayer, it’d be kinda ok at this point (minus the stupid caves). It’s the hundred-player MMO that’s out of reach, and that’s not a surprise. The procedural planets are also pretty cool – it’s the city content that sucks.

I strained my scroll finger.

Since these ships are free to fly, I guess there’s no drawback in kamikaze dive bombing other ships around you? It would be cool to take out some dude’s $5k ship with your freebies.

You should try that and see what happens, it’d be interesting to see what kinds of mechanisms are in it to deal with that kind of griefing.

Although, just to be clear, it’s not like the guy will permanently lose his ship from you destroying it. And technically whatever ship he’s flying will be available for free anyway.

I’m glad they’re finally getting the engine and world sorted, so that they can move onto the complicated bit - the part where they build a game and make it fun and bug-free.
