Star Citizen - Chris Roberts, lots of spaceship porn, lots of promises

^that

Bored Gamer posted a video looking at the latest planet tech. The pop in of the city assets coming from space is not great at all.

However, once he gets close to the city (about 5’ in) and starts flying through New Babbage and the wilderness in snowy weather, the level of detail is pretty awe inspiring. He then goes for a walkabout in the snow. Very nice.

I’m 2:20 in and they just tried to sell me a ship for 200 dollars.

Don’t leave us hanging. How many did you order?

Immediately before that, the presenter takes us to see an impressive food court with a beautiful holographic sculpture in the atrium, then notes you can’t buy anything in the food court.

The thing is, for me at least, what can you do in these gorgeous environments? If you can deliver a beautiful, realistic cityscape that is chock-full of stuff to do and objects with which to interact, great. If it’s just a picture gallery, I can’t get too excited, really.

Huh? Ok, I guess.

Glad you found it in you to resist that thing that wasn’t the point of the video.

I haven’t played in quite a while, but the recent patch notes overview mentioned new multi steps missions added on the PTU. It’s all still disconnected missions here and there as far as I understand. By no means a full game experience. But it should be fun to run some of those missions in environments that good looking. My PC is way past is retirement date though. I’ll try SC again when I have something a bit more capable. So, for now, I ooh and aah at pretty ships and cities once in a while.

Right. Empty barren cities that don’t serve gameplay.

I mean, I do see some benefit to simply looking good; it’s better than, say, looking bad! But in general, functionality is key.

They seem to have forgotten that they’re making a game, not a screen shot generator

I think we both know it’s a good bit more intentional than that.

Well, they seem to be very adept at monetizing the screenshots, so there is that.

Here’s an idea: Playing our game will cost you 30 cents per frame, so a low framerate will actually be saving you money!

Weekend lols

Star Citizen backer launched GoFundMe to sue CIG - for fraud.

Six days and zero donors. The only way to go is up.

What? No jpegs as goals? Fail.

I’m nowhere close to a lawyer but (based on this thread) I am guessing it would be hard to sue successfully. Did SC ever promise hard dates on things?

They definitely have advertised a ton of release dates over the years and obviously not met any of them. But I would assume that it is very hard to sue them for delays. They went through a huge cycle of ToS updates to basically take away any accountability. Not a lawyer either, but I assume that their defense of the fact that there is a ‘game’ you can currently play now and they still are adding things would be hard to beat.
