Steam numbers

Free weekend promos never attract me, simply because I don’t want to bother with a huge download and install… plus there’s my backlog of growing unease.

I am the opposite, i trid several, and I always thought they would raise sales significantly. I suppose that’s why publishers barely makes demos anymore: people buy games by hype or by previous games, you can offer the full game to try and not even that makes people buy your game.
Though i think the CoD is a special case, and all the potential market interested in it is already buying the CoD games since at least three or four years. It’s not exactly an unknown IP.

Dead Island also doing pretty well on the Xbox Live list.

The higher positions are more or less like always except CS and CS:S that have today 6000 more players. Rage appears for the first time with 18000 players, Portal 2 appears in the top20 thanks to the new offer and DLC, BC2 drops from the list, Fable 3 is in the last spot thanks also to the weekend offer and the rest (New Vegas, Shogun 2, Empire, Garrys Mod, Terraria, Dead Island, Deus ex, etc) stays more or less the same.

Looks like Orcs Must Die is going to be a pretty good hit on Steam, especially since that’s only counting pre-orders at this point in time.

Yeah, word of mouth on what is doubtless going to be a good release is going to propel that.

I feel bad for all those Fable 3 buyers. :(

Civ V continues to have ton of active players for a game that was so derided at launch. I count myself among its many fans, even moreso that IV.

Even more ins the case of Empire TW, much criticized at first by the public (big gap between metacritic review score and user score, for example), even more in this forum, and in the end it’s one of the most played games in Steam, even if it was released at the beginning of 2009.

The New Vegas rankings continue to be crazy. Just at half the players of Rage, a new game with multiplayer modes?

Huh? What’s this about? I have Fable III. Something I should know?

Not just Steam, but lots of PC sales figures compiled here:

Civ V is more casual, and simply easier, than Civ IV. But, honestly, with the (mostly) pleasing asthetics (though i think the music kinda goes off the downtempo end in the middle ages in a way that i don’t particularly think appropriate) it’s more fun to play. I even like the scenarios, mostly because they’re (again) pretty straightforward, yet each does try something a little different from the standard game. None of them match the great achievement of the Civ III Conquests expansion which were fantastic (in fact some of the music made for those expansions lived on in Civ IV), but they’re still fun enough.

Have you played it and Fable 2? Fable 3 is considered to be the inferior game by most players of both.

I’m one of them.

  1. Rage doesn’t work at all on my rig, so there’s that.
  2. I’m only about half done with the main New Vegas quest story and I’m still playing through DLC at 70-something hours in! This is why Bethesda gamebryo RPG games will get bought by me on day one every time, despite all the launch warts.

No. There is no Fable 2 on PC and never will be.
That comment I quoted made it sound like there was some issue or drama.

Ah, gotcha. If you haven’t played the second one then the issues in Fable 3 will probably be less annoying. I think you’re going to find some of the gameplay mechanics will be questionable anyway, but without the second game as reference, it won’t be as disappointing.

Well, it’s not like the first Fable (which is on PC) is a good precedent to have. :P

1 RAGE
2 THQ Hit Collection
3 Might & Magic Heroes VI
4 Metro 2033
5 Dungeon Defenders
6 Red Faction: Armageddon
7 Fable III
8 Duke Nukem Forever
9 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
10 Orcs Must Die!

Second week for Rage in number 1.
Dead Island and Portal 2 (past no. 2 and 4) disappear.
Fable 3 holds up, incredibly.
A very decent position for Heroes 6. If the reviews are positive, it may have legs.
Strangely, MW3 goes down, instead of up as the release date closes in.
And second week with Orcs must die! in the top 10.
