Subnautica - SCUBA, Unknown Worlds, drowning

Just finished this. Excellent game. I loved the whole story and the experience through the first 40 or so hours, although resource gathering and inventory management became a drag in the last couple hours when I just wanted to progress in the story and get it all done - distances become quite daunting to haul back and forth just for item X or water bottle etc that you forgot or didn’t know you’d need. At that point I switched from Survival to Creative mode and that solved the issue - glad this is straightforward to do and let me play my way.

I suggest the developers add a global inventory upgrade/tool by the end game to avoid this drag in gameplay in the last couple hours - besides that this was a perfect narrative/exploration experience. Looking forward to whatever they may add on in the future.

That’s impressive. I always wondered about what you’d need down there to survive - do you have to immediately start applying reinforcements when you build b/c I’d think hull integrity would be leaking almost immediately.

I’d like to see a shot from external to see all the pieces and how you do foundation / etc.

Nice work!

Awesome! Congrats man. And @Ultrazen. Nice base!

I finished again, so that’s once pre-live and twice post-live. I love the game, but need to hang up the fins for now (unless there is a DLC, please, please, please.)

What’s crazy is that I completely missed the alien flora research facility. the side room off of a large chamber in the lost river. This game has such an interesting take on information, it drives you to read everything in the PDA.

It’s actually no big deal lol. I was surprised it wasn’t tougher actually. I’ll grab a few screenshots.

I’m down here because I’m basically in farming mode to just build bases in weird spots. This is a great place to setup as you have access to pretty much everything both upper and lower world. I think I’m going to roleplay this playthrough as someone who has decided that real life sucks, and this planet is awesome lol. Maybe some kind of shady past that going back to doesn’t really have much appeal.

Okay, I’m impressed. How on earth did you get that Cyclops down there? That is some mad piloting skills.

There are two spots big enough to get it down there. By that point in the game my Cyclops was my base =) Loaded with small lockers lined along the walls, I had most of my inventory in there. If it had ever sunk, I would have been in a world of hurt =)

Woooo nice view!

I took the Cyclops all the way down there as well. Seemed like the obvious thing to do. :) I did scout the place out with my Prawn beforehand and put down a few beacons to make navigation easier. I never built a base down there, though, that’s pretty awesome.

That’s really cool you set up down there. Me, I found the lighting / darkness to be too much & I got out of there as fast as possible. I had zero interest in hanging around, but I can see the appeal, with the 4 gates that are there. Instant travel to 4 different biomes.

Weird that you didn’t have to load up with a lot of reinforcements on your base to allow it to survive and you even have tons of windows!

It’s actually pretty easy once you know the route, this is the 2nd full playthrough for me, as well as probably 40 hours in early access, so at this point, I can find my way down there pretty easily. There are couple of kind of tight corners and drops, but it’s cake once you do it a few times. Cyclops is just made for this place really, with the thermal charger upgrade, you literally never have to worry about power, even with multiple charging stations etc.

Yah, I’m just in farming mode now, and this ended up being the best location to farm from. I initially just plopped a moonpool down there, because I still wanted a few upgrades and didn’t want to travel all the way back to base to do it. My plan is to build a huge base down here, because I don’t want to stop playing lol. I am currently contemplating making a 2nd Cyclops, so I can have a mobile surface base :P

Edit: Updated lava base.

Did you kill the Sea Dragon that is usually hanging out there? Do the big ones not respawn?

I haven’t bothered, for whatever reason, they never mess with me over here, and they aren’t really much of a problem otherwise. I’m sure one of these days he’ll decide to destroy everything lol.

Is there any sort of real time pressure in the game? I started my first playthrough post-release and just got to the point where I’ve got all three vehicles and a couple of scanner rooms up to make mass resource gathering easier. I need to know if I can indulge in a few in game weeks of recreational base building without fear.

Recreationally build to your heart’s content!

It seems you can, since I’m weeks (and over 48 real hours) into it. Mostly spent building bases. I have a condition.

My base after my third(!) relocation:

In my game I’ve finally started going deeper. But really, I could build bases all day long and never care if I get rescued or leave the planet.

I bet you’ve actually seen a used reactor rod and had to use the nuclear waste disposal unit. Lol

sweet mother of god thats a biggun!

I’m about 15 hours into a hardcore run, pretty fun. I think I know pretty well what spots to avoid, and how to get away etc, my biggest fear is getting turned around in some wreck and running out of air. It certainly adds an element of excitement to things :P

Not yet, but I imagine I will!

I finished the stack of rooms next to the outdoor grow beds right before I took those shots (the other stack is living quarters, office and the like). I found one of the deep Degasi bases, got the alien containment blueprint from it, and finally found uranite and nickel a little deeper below it. Came back and finished out the stack with my first nuclear reactor below, and 3-story containment unit above, my workshop and lab.

Example of why my progress in the story is so slow: I’m looking at those pictures and it just occurred to me that if I swap around the contents/purpose of the two towers, I’d have much shorter runs between vehicles and storage when unloading resources. Hmmm…

Wow, that is some first class base building. I am not worthy with my itty bitty setups that I built.
