Telltale's Walking Dead

Well, for this very LTTP, but thanks to @marquac I got to do season 1 this week.

After playing through, I stumbled on this video, thought I would share:

Also, they are announcing a season 3:

You just reminded me I never played the Michonne episodes. Anyone have any impressions? Worth taking a look at if I liked the others?

They are kind of short. The third one is excellent though. I’d say pick it up when it’s in a sale if you’re a fan of the series.

The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series – A New Frontier AKA Season 3.

November 2016

It’s set four years after the events of the first season, and Clem is
now a teenager with bucketloads of zombie-murdering experience. Javier,
meanwhile, is “a man struggling to keep his family together in the new world.”

I have never seen Walking Dead but plan on binging on it some day. Will playing walking dead by telltale spoil a bunch of the tv series for me?

No. Besides taking place in the same zombie apocalypse there is near zero overlap. I mean, there’s a tiny bit but not anything that would constitute a spoiler.

We really should make new threads for each season. Just that description is kind of a spoiler for the first two seasons.

That also reminds me I need to start Season 2 Episode 2.

Season 1 really had a perfect ending, in my mind, and I actually regret playing the second season because of that. I think I’m going to pass on the third.

Thanks! Now I just have to wait for a good sale!

Season 3! A New Frontier

Awesome. Any details besides the trailer?

First 2 episodes of season 3 have been out quite awhile now, did anyone pick it up?

I saw Episode 3 is set for March 28th release.

In my mind, I’ve got a clear line between the Telltale games I will buy and play as episodes are released, like Batman, and those that I wait to play once the season is fully out, and that’s where The Walking Dead sits. And then there are the ones I’ll probably buy on sale someday, like Minecraft. Which is my unnecessarily verbose way of saying, no. Haven’t played any of season three yet.

3rd season is coming to a close… I’ll grab this during the summer sale. Though I’ve read it is the weakest of the series.

Final Season with Clem announced.

I am glad they are commiting to that being the last one. Would be nice if that was also fully the last Walking Dead game by Telltale. Hopefully they will not fuck it up.

Played the first episode of New Frontier last night, at first I wasn’t feeling it. Starts out with the (fairly rite by now) introduction of yet another group of sad sacks who find their lives upended by the zombie apocalypse. This family is Hispanic so they call them muertos rather than walkers but otherwise it’s the same thing.

But then Clem shows up, kind of out of nowhere, and I cared again. She’s clearly had a tough time of things since she’s alone again - nobody from season two, not even little A.J. And she is way more ready with her trigger finger these days, as the game quickly shows us. I think, or maybe I should say I hope, that what the game is working on is showing Clem at a low point before re-humanizing her, because I don’t need to see her torn down like all the others. I get that the main point of The Walking Dead is basically “Life isn’t worth living but you probably should keep doing it anyway because the alternative sucks.” But I might be done if I’m just in for another helping of misery porn.

Just to follow up, I completed the season last night and while I thought it was ok overall, I found the last chapter to be a little, I don’t know, all over the place? And I have a suspicion about why. I think Telltale has been taking all this flak they catch about none of the choices people make really adding up to any consequence in the end - like you can choose the side roads you take to get their, but the destination will always be the same. And I think they may have shaken that up this time, though only having played once I can’t say for sure. Just that there’s kind of an odd anticlimax to everything, and the wrap up screens show you which characters lived, died or just disappeared, as if those can change. I did make one consequential decision in the last episode that I think may have affected the ending, just because a spoiler image of the splash page of the last episode seems to indicate someone dies that lived in my story. But I guess it’s just speculating for me at this point.

Trailer for the final season right here:

Holy crap, that’s grim.

edit: forgot to mention, August 14 release of the first episode to PC, PS4 and Xbox One, late 2018 to Switch.

I got chills, great trailer. I still need to get around to third season dammit.
