Yup. Pick a play style, concentrate on a set of skills that use as much of one stat as possible, follow that into the endgame.

One of the neat things about the game is that components from sets of equipment are given as rewards in area quests. For example, if you want the “Magicians Doodads” (not a real set) which has a wand, boots, robe, rings, hat, and pants, you would want to do all the quests in a certain territory and you’re sure to get all of it by the end. They can be random drops as well, but getting the set for sure can be done by just concentrating in one general area - no wandering and hoping for luck needed.

Alright. Sheesh. I feel like I’m back to school with all the things I have to learn. I’m not even gonna bother reading about the “endgame” y’all are talking about yet cause my head is spinning.

And thanks @Telefrog, I almost suspected that. I’ll be going back to Vvardenfell to finish the Defiler set then =) Get me that horrid Hunger-thingie!!

There are guides out there for effective builds if you would rather focus on questing than optimization. I am running a Stamina Sorcerer build that’s been nearly unkillable and does tons of AoE damage that I can definitely vouch for, but there are quite a few others on the site I used. Travelling right now but I will link tonight if you are interested and nobody else beats me to it.

I still struggle to mentally get my head around that system. I get that it is entirely consistent with the Elder Scrolls system, but Sorcerer should be fricken magica!

I tried to go Magica nightblade first, and got annoyed that this also meant mainly using staff/staff if you really want to maximise your effectiveness. Stam nightblade then so I can blade and bow it up…

It doesn’t really matter much for leveling as long as you don’t make huge mistakes like splitting your points between stamina and magicka. Pick one and stick with it, using only throughput skills that consume that same resource. (Utility skills for the other one are fine.)

I agree it’s super confusing and they should change it.

I forgot… thanks also to the experienced people in this thread. I would not have understood some of this stuff without you. And special thanks @charmtrap for the mod list! My map is so much more helpful, and writs are no longer pointlessly infuriating…

Thanks, but that was @Charlatan. You got the first four letters right, though!

I mean, I turn into a hurricane and summon daedric weapons (sorta - it’s a passive buff for having it slotted), so I am still doing sorcerous stuff. Just, y’know, with stamina and a dual wield/bow weapon set.

@kristina Stamina nightblade is a solid choice, especially if you go into the thieves guild/dark brotherhood questlines where cloak really helps. If you stick around for the endgame they’re one of the strongest specs for both PvP and PvE dps. However with stamina you’re going to be squishy with no real (stamina) class heal. You might want to consider unlocking vigor, which is in the PvP tree.

The fastest way to do so is probably to do it in battlegrounds. Even though you’ll only be matched up against other sub level 50 players, it can be rough, as you’ll be up against some people who are experienced and have set gear from their alts. But you’re guaranteed a good amount of AP (PvP experience/currency) even if you lose, as well as a lot of regular XP, and you should have vigour after around 20 odd matches even if you lose every one (which you won’t) Or you can run around in Cyrodiil, which will likely take longer but is also a lot of fun.

I wouldn’t worry about sets for regular questing as you’ll likely out level your earlier drops by the time you complete a set, but if you want to have good success in PvP you will want relevant sets and up to date gear.

Arrgg… of course it is @Charlatan!

Thanks @charmtrap, I thank you for nothing. Well, until just then. And getting me into the guild. And probably some other stuff too…

This is the build I’m using, and the site has a bunch of others: http://deltiasgaming.com/eso-stamina-sorcerer-dps-build/

I have used Deltia’s a lot and I like the site. But I read (maybe on reddit?) that Deltia’s doesn’t keep their builds up to date so much any more. I read that now the most up-to-date builds are at https://alcasthq.com/ I find that looking at both sites gives me some good insight as to builds and build strategy.

My feeling is that builds being perfectly up to date is probably not relevant to the casual player unless they’re specifically built around some particular trick that no longer works. I mean, you may not hit the DPS you’d need for really hardcore content (or perhaps some PvP contexts), but you’re probably still going to have synergies etc that let you operate a lot more smoothly for general PvE stuff than just haphazardly picking stuff that looks cool would. Like I say, I find that build extremely effective. But another source never hurts.

Thanks, I’ll check both of these guides out!
I’m not really into PvP gaming but I’ll check it out I guess. I don’t want the game to stay fun though, not just a bunch of homework, done with that a long time ago! =)

There are a few things about ESO that are really getting on my nerves, other than the fact that I still have to learn a shitload of things just to be able to kill a few bosses (`yes, I’ve added some more now that I just can’t beat).

I KNOW this is an online game and enemies spawn and whatever, but it’s just way too annoying to liberate a town from some kind of enemy, but they still spawn every time you go in there. It’s just frustrating never to see any real progress in a game you spend so much time in. And they’ve managed this some places, like f.e. mines where kwama workers won’t attack you anymore, so couldn’t they just do the same with assassins strewn over an island where I’ve JUST killed their boss?

Yeah, it’s not clear to me why they don’t use whatever tech they’re employing to change the state of some areas as you progress the quest across the board. Or at least in all the spots where it makes sense. Like, ok, maybe a tomb full of aggressive undead wouldn’t instantly quiet down when you fight the quest boss or whatever. But there are cases when it really should and doesn’t.

I just bought my first house - sweet! :)

Nice! Now prepare to go broke furnishing it :)

(I’m also envious of your wolf. Never got anything noteworthy in my free crates…)

I got my wolf for free by watching Bethesda’s E3 show on Twitch.

I was annoyed by that because they held it on a workday in the middle of the day, so while maybe some people can watch Twitch at work (or are in a timezone/work schedule where that’s not worktime), I sure as fuck couldn’t.

Edit: Actually, thinking of their Quakecon presentation. But I bet the E3 one was also awkwardly timed.
