I actually started a thread on this topic in this forum a few weeks back. I feel like there are several story telling techniques that are currently being overused or used where they don’t work well, in several genres of media.
As for The Nevers, it really depends on what they do and how they do it. There are some retro-background stories they could tell that would work, and some that wouldn’t IMO.
But as is mentioned above, the Nevers already did the “start in media res and then backfill” technique in the very first episode, and has also hinted greatly at space for backfill on several other plotlines (True + Maladie, etc.) so I feel like they are already pushing it.
