The STALKER Mod Thread

Oh my, this just threw a wrench into my Warframe grinding plans.

RPS just did a write-up on Anomaly.

Good writeup, I will probably make time for this now.

Playing Anomoly - so this is one of those mods with invisible anomalies that randomly kill you. Yeah no thanks.

But… but… throwing screws everywhere is the part of the fun of cheeki breeki!!!

You now only get 1 screw lol

Thanks. I’ve bookmarked the link to the mod.

I just came across this wonderful addon compilation for Anomaly 1.5 RC19. It includes everything, including the standalone mod, so the only thing that’s required after unzipping (ahem, the file, that is) is to set up your resolution and optionally, graphic settings. I recommend clearing shader cache on first run too.

So, I’ve been playing this for the past couple of days and it’s really fantastic.

Visuals are great, I didn’t have to fiddle with them at all, which was a very, very welcome surprise, because the Stalker games and their mods are generally super dark and it takes a while before you can get them to the level where you can actually see anything, and then even more time is spent trying to reign in the absolutely insane level of lighting variance at different times of day and weather conditions. No such issues here, everything looks amazing out of the box.

Gameplay is the classic Anomaly, not much to say here. If you’re a fan of roaming the Zone, doing random tasks for npcs and slowly following the main story quests you’re in for a treat. That said, I finally caved in today and enabled fast travel and my enjoyment of the mod went through the roof. Instantly 10x more fun.

Other than that, the game is pure gun and gear porn. It reminds me of Jagged Alliance 2 1.13 mod in that way, except that it’s first person. Slowly getting the gear together is so much fun, and you actually appreciate saving up enough money to buy different gear pieces, like for example the head mounted NVGs that come with a lamp option, so you can finally use your twohanded weapon while exploring tunnels. Gear that actually changes the gameplay is always a welcome thing in RPGs and RPG-lites.

Performance…can’t say much here because I recently upgraded to the 3060, but at 1440p with everything more or less on max and reshade running I still hit 100+ fps even under worst conditions, with fps often spiking to 165 (my monitor’s max refresh rate). That said, playing this game at 100+ fps with gsync turned on is SUBLIME. Just for kicks since I got the new gpu and monitor I downloaded a few modern games for testing purposes and the way this mod handles gunplay and animations related to first person weapon handling in general is just unreal. Everything else pales in comparison.

Last year the mod was voted as Mod of the year on MODDB, and I suspect it will be no different this year. It’s simply unbelievable that something like this exists as a standalone mod (no original assets required) and is completely free.

Tried an earlier version and it was so freakin’ brutally HARD I just couldn’t do it. Maybe try the latest one and just put on my big person pants.

There’s no shame in playing on easy and tourist mode. I’m playing that way now and it’s more fun in a way. The experience can still be brutal, and imo the harder settings are reserved for people who live and breathe these mods and know every little detail inside and out. It’s not uncommon to be caught with your pants down and getting ambushed by bandits, mercs or military if you’re not careful. Or worse, bloodsuckers.

Does the video card actually matter for those framerates? I played a mod a year or two ago with a 1070ti and 9700K and still ran into performance issues. I was nowhere near 100. I thought it was the old game engine more than the GPU.

Anomaly runs on a x64 fork of the engine, so it’s a bit different. Nowhere near as optimized as modern AAA games though imo. I’m still hitting 95% of gpu utilization at those fps fwiw.

Do you need to break out your old STALKER discs/downloads in order to run this, or is it truly standalone?

Nope, completely standalone and free.

I assume it’s this?

No, that’s a single mod. The one I linked is a merge of various mods.

I ask because your post didn’t have a link, just an embedded Youtube video that, on mobile at least, won’t even let me go to the youtube site to see if there’s a link to it in the video description.

Here’s a link to the full download:
