tl;dw Some major points

  • Mics are great nowadays so many actors just mumble. They can do rerecording but that costs money so they try not to do it.

  • Need to carve out frequency space from all the music and BGM for human frequencies

  • Directors like Nolan don’t care and they like it that way. They make it for Dolby Atmos. The 7.1, 5.1, stereo formats can suffer because it takes time/money.

  • Sound mixes favor BGM and noises over dialogue

  • TVs speakers are worse than they used to be because they are thin bastards, and the speakers are often not even pointed at you

Now if someone can explain to me why everything is so fucking dark…
