Iron Danger is really cool-looking. It’s sort of an action rpg. 2 members in your party. The unique thing is you can freely rewind time and change what you do and when which makes it feel puzzly.
That looks great! I do hope there’s some sort of seabase-building element in the game, like in Subnautica. Looks like you get a cool submarine at least.
Not sure what’s going on with this week’s list. As usual, this one’s from Kotaku. Maybe I should cross reference with Gamespot’s list. This one has weird stuff, like Gears Tactics is only coming to PC? Not Xbox? Is that right? Also, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is listed as a release? Didn’t that come out last Sept/Oct? What’s going on there? Do they mean the Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Campaign maybe?

Here’s Gamespot’s page. They give a shout out to the Modern Warfare 2 Remaster coming to Xbox and PC, so that verifies that. And Gears Tactics is only listed for PC, so there you go, confirmation. And they also give a shoutout to the release of Sakura Wars, a soft reboot of a long running series coming to the West, and Snowrunner, which does look cool if you’re a fan of Mudrunner. And Streets of Rage 4.
I wonder if it will have separate achievements? It would be weird if I play it now, and it finally comes out on Xbox and I already have all the achievements I’m going to have. (I’m assuming that like most games, there will be achievements that are above my threshold of willingness).
I’m thought this originally was another post apocalypse kind of thing, but it’s garbage management with online co-op! Alas its also EA… so, just adding it to the list for now.
Weirdly looking forward to this after just finishing the remaster of the original MW. I’ve always thought this game had the best CoD campaign, but I’m curious if it still holds up.
I watched an extended gameplay video and I don’t think this game is the game people think it is:
There is a lot of dialogue in this game, a whole lot, between the diver and two scientist types who guide her diving
Because of that, this doesn’t appear to be a free form game. Basically each day, you go to a sensor buoy and it gives you three “targets” to go visit, to study/scan/analyze. You’re basically learning more about the various species, scanning them, tagging them for identification purposes, and/or scientific
research.
The two scientists reflect two different points of view - one seems to be all about preserving the oceans, protecting them, the other more interested in discoveries that could help people. Neither appears to be "evil/bad’, just different perspectives. Apparently they give you suggestions as to what/how to study and you choose which to listen to and that can influence the story and end of game
There is also some sort of story about some shadowy group perhaps doing something nefarious with undersea mining
You have sub, but it appears to be nothing more than your base, didn’t see any piloting. No base building.
You have missions/objectives but you don’t seem to get anything tangible from them. No new skills, no new equipment, no crafting, nothing really so the game seems limited in that respect.
There are three biomes - shallow atoll, mid level (furthest edge of sunlight), and the dark deep where you need lights
No danger, you can’t be attacked by sharks or sea monsters.
So, it’s not a Subnautica type game, but of a story driven diving/scientific research game. It is very beautiful but I don’t think it has the depth some of us might be looking for.
I have no problem with any of that, I never assumed things to be present that haven’t been discussed or shown. You mentioned Subnautica, if I want to build a base and explore a territory I’ve always got that, plus its expansion. I love underwater games, I think Abzu is great and it’s a very streamlined/no combat/light exploration game. This all sounds good to me.
You guys just reminded me of when I went snorkeling in real life down in Mexico in 2008. It was way, way better than I’d ever imagined it would be. There’s something about looking at coral reefs and turtles and fish underwater while you’re physically in there with them, it makes it feel completely different from watching the same thing in an aquarium or watching it on TV. Just the physical act of being in the water with them just changes it, transforms it.
Speak for yourself, that’s exactly the type of game I’m looking for. As divedivedive says, I basically want Abzu but more realistic/bigger.Also, ideally, in VR, but you can’t have everything.
