Xbox Live's Rules Are A Train Wreck

Seeing console fanboys of all sides get riled up from Valve’s statements is both hilarious and depressing. Not necessarily anyone here, but elsewhere.

All these accusations of them backtracking, or just going “where the money is” or somesuch, or being “lazy”. Such utter rubbish, so stupid.

Valve talked about the difficulties of PS3 development years ago. Those realities are still true today. The PS3 is still an esoteric game development platform with a video card in it that’s terrible and a CPU that wasn’t at all created with games in mind.

What’s changed is the tools and the people. Over time, Sony’s tools have improved. People have learned how to exploit the esoteric hardware. Valve can finally hire those people, and create a version of their engine that works well on the PS3. What Gabe said about the PS3 years ago though isn’t suddenly negated by the fact that they now are going to develop for the PS3.
