At Yahoo I interviewed a lot of celebs in connection with their tie in games. They almost universally didn’t seem to have any actual interest in games. Excepting Vin Diesel, who clearly loves games, I think David Hasselhoff of all of them may have displayed the most genuine enthusiasm.

You realize many (perhaps the majority) of the people talking about games around here are actually Gen X, right?

Sure, he’s not saying there weren’t gamers in Gen X, but in Gen X it was a clearer division, there were gamers and there was everyone else. It’s becoming a more universal experience every year.

At least I think that’s what he’s saying.

That’s cool! What games was the 'Hoff promoting or excited about?

I’m guessing some NIGHTRIDER games?

Damn, imagine a Knight Rider game in the GTA5 engine.

From my experiences with students, who mostly now are people born in this century, playing games is such a mainstream activity across so many platforms that many folks who we would have thought of as “gamers” a few decades ago don’t consider themselves gamers any more than I would consider myself a “computer nerd” simply because I have/use computers. Back in the early 80s, yeah, having computers was fringe, just like gaming was for a long time. But now, it’s so much a part of the background that people game all the time but don’t consider themselves gamers, or even express that much excitement about it. More like the engagement people have for any number of ordinary but pleasant things/activities in their lives.

I think it was this:

He was one of the parodied celebs and decided to roll with it, I gather.

But we’re nerds.

Fair enough. ;)

When I first read this my initial suspicion was he did play it briefly and just forgot about it completely. I know I also am 50/50 on if I ever played this or not.

It used to surprise me sometimes when some of my Gen-X friends, people I’d first meet in high school or college, would know very little about videogames. Everyone plays a little of this or that, but the ‘deep dive’ I had as a kid was not typical, I guess.

Yeah, my suspicion always was that he was handed the controller and he stumbled V around for a few seconds, maybe accidentally shot at a pedestrian, then smiled politely and said it was cool or whatever. In no universe was a busy actor like Keanu Reeves playing through a full 40-hour open world RPG.

A busy actor like Seth Rogen, on the other hand, I might buy it!

I think Cavill is on record as having played through Witcher 3 like three times or something.

Sure, but Cavill is a huge gaming nerd that still stans for Warhammer in interviews.

Keanu has never said a word about gaming.

Cavill is a huge gamer, is the difference. He’s talked about it a lot.

Haha, true. I just saw a headline in my Google News feed this morning where he said it’s his dream to star in a Warhammer movie.

Just saying, if he finds the time for multiple W3 playthrough with his acting schedule, Reeves could too. Seems like he’s more into motorbikes, though, at least given how YT keeps pushing videos about that to me.

Cavill has posted social media photos of his gaming PC, which he built himself.

I watched a Youtube video a while back of Cavill building it.
