Death's Door - new action-adventure by the makers of Titan Souls

Now down to 4 shrines and 4 shiny objects.

And I just checked the sailor again, and his 3 advice are still the same, 3 that I’ve already gotten long ago.

I did beat the final boss. And rang the bell. I suppose it’s a little easier.

I have to admit, it’s the first time I’m still playing a game after beating the final boss. This twist kind of makes it different from all the other games where I lose all motivation to keep going.

I did find all the shiny objects now. And an owl. And a bunch of other stuff.

Speaking of abilities taught early on that I never used. Yesterday as I was exploring after beating the final boss, I re-discovered the Left Trigger and Right Trigger, neither of which I have used in the game thus far. One of them is a heavy attack! Woah. And the other is a block move, it looks like. I had no idea you could do either of those things.

Boom. True Ending. 24 hours and 32 minutes. A new Qt3 record.

I just missed 3 achievements: Beating everything with the umbrella, feeding the Frog King an explosive treat. And setting Grandma’s Pot on Fire.

I guess if I ever want to replay the game, that’s a good excuse, is to get those 3 achievements.

Excellent game. 24 days well spent.

Now onto Psychonauts 2.

What’s confusing to me is that you don’t start with the Umbrella. So how are you supposed to only use the Umbrella for the entire game?

I’m going through Death’s Door withdrawal now. Maybe I should re-install and start my 2nd playthrough now?

No, no. Must move on.

Some BTS stuff here.

Ok, here I go!

So far the game seems pretty easy. I have died once, when I got careless with Guardian of the Door (I hope the name itself is not much of a spoiler). Enjoying, though. Thanks to this thread I am simply planting life seeds as I go rather than hoarding them, which would have been my likely natural behavior.

I have died quite a lot! It always feels fair though, it’s always when I’ve been impatient or sloppy. And thanks to the level design, I’m pleased death doesn’t cost too much time.

I picked this up with the Epic store coupon, due to @krayzkrok and @Rock8man 's enthusiasm, and I’m enjoying it a lot! I played a bit over the weekend, and I’m currently on my way to the third giant soul. I was hoping I’d have found more life shards so far, I’ve only got one - maybe if I re-visit earlier levels with newer abilities there might be more…? And I too would have hoarded the life seeds if it weren’t for this thread, so I appreciate the head’s up.

Yeah, I was also the beneficiary of early advice in this thread, mostly from krok, about planting seeds as I went. So by the time I got to the end of the game, the first of the completionist things I didn’t need to worry about was seeds, since I already had all of those. All the various temples were the hardest things to find, and I finally just looked up the locations of the last two that I couldn’t find.

I like the art direction. The Guardian’s little feet were a particular treat.

Thanks - next time I’m frustrated, I’ll take a break and go backtracking for secrets!

Such a gorgeous game.

Sometimes when I’m running around exploring I’m reminded of this and chuckle:

I did take a break and went shrine-hunting, courtesy of tips from the human sailor, and added two blobs to my life bar which helped a lot with some of the bosses.

Last night I managed to get the third great soul (even though I was playing with my custom difficulty modifiers*), and today I got to the credits, then finished up the various night-time tasks. I quite liked these as a mostly mellow post-game wander around the place, nicely relaxing after the last boss battle.

Anyway, all in all a great game, I really enjoyed it - it had interrupted me playing Metroid Dread, and kept my attention to the end.

* i.e. was drinking wine whilst playing.

Yay! Good job wavey. Glad you got to see the post game stuff too.

I have died several more times! Although since there is no penalty actually death has sort of helped me save time because I don’t have to traipse back to the door to spend my souls.

Thanks!

I did, and it was great! But I must admit I did read a guide to find out the things I needed to do when it was night, I lacked the patience to explore and guess. For some reason I couldn’t make a dent in the various shot-improvement bosses, so they remained undone - I left it at 96% done, and I’m happy with that. I’ll be looking out for future projects from Acid Nerve (who I’ve just found out are based in my home town of Manchester!)

Yes, those are both great mechanics, I agree! :-P

Hey, this is pretty good so far. I just entered the land of the witch so I’m not far in. It feels nice and fluid.

This seems like one of the games that benefits from having achievements. I wish I didn’t buy it from Epic.

Didn’t all games on the EGS get achievements recently?

That’s what I thought was going to happen but no. I think what they did was add some kind of sitewide achievements framework so you can compare yours to other people like on steam?
