Deep Rock Galactic (now out of early access!)

I admit when I don’t have any assignments or even season 1 challenges I sort of stop playing until they are available again.

I think the season 1 challenges refresh every 24 hours but the weekly assignments / deep dives are only once a week.

Finally, 3-star for every dwarf! I only needed… let’s see… 204 hours!

What are they? Noob asking!

The star? They don’t do anything…beyond indicating being a veteran in your badge. You level up from to 1 to 25, then you promote to 1-star, which resets your level to 1 but give you a star, then you level up from 1 to 25 again, promote to have 2 stars, etc.

Ah I see, so it’s a bit like prestiging.

The first promotion is actually the only one that matters, as it unlocks Deep Dives and the Weekly Core hunt assignment and gives you the ability to activate events and benefit from them (with Blank Cores)

Blank cores are used to get weapon Overlocks and Cosmetics.

You should seek to promote all your dwarves at least once so they are all eligible for Deep Dives since a non-promoted dwarf class cannot participate.

Also if you are wondering,

A Deep Dive is a series of three missions each with two mixed primary objectives/no secondary. So for example like…collect X eggs and mine X morkite. Each mission gives a blank core, a weapon overclock, and a cosmetic, in that order, mirrored by the core hunt assignment. There are also no mineral resources gained from these missions.

In terms of difficulty, I think each series of missions is like this:

A Deep Dive is Hazard 3/3+/4
An Elite Deep Dive is Hazard 4+/5/5+ (AKA the hardest content available in the game)

Ahh, so that’s the ‘promotion’. I was wondering how you do that and even looked in the in-game miners manual to see if there was any information about it there. I’ve only been playing one character mostly with friends, the driller, but I’d like to give the others a go. We only play once or twice a week together so we’re hardly powering it!

Not bad, given that we didn’t have the extra gold beer nor we found any Crassus. It was just escort mission + golden bugs.

I haven’t seen a golden loot bug in well over a 2 weeks. :(

Xmas!

Both hats look fantastic.

Yep, insane Plus get.

Paging @TurinTur or @lordkosc

I’ve recently picked DRG back up and frankly I am wondering why I stopped. Maybe it was an EA/ wait for 1.0 type thing as I played a bit it seems early on. Anyway, I have way too many games soaking up time (with a giant WarhammerIII on the way) so I am afraid of another season pass time eater. But I like the game if it can be a casual cave crawl every now and then. How is the season thing here? Do I need to grind hours every day or cry forever about lost opportunities?

Also, what is the TLDR for progression? I want to pick up or aim for new weapon unlocks if they are going away soon, but all I see are cosmetics in a long grind. What should I be aiming to do with limited time to progress? This is not the same as progress quickly. If I know I can’t get all the things, what things should I be trying to get?

Are the DLCs just skins? Any good suggestions on a primer video to get going again?

Thank for the help. Now I need to go look at that Kickstarter maybe.

Well I am neither of those guys but I have played this one a lot recently and for well over a hundred hours overall. ALL of the DLC and season items are cosmetics. Don’t worry about missing out on anything except maybe looking fly. The weapons are not time-limited. There are daily (I think?) missions for season points but I don’t pay attention to them. The game is extremely easy to get into; I don’t think you even need any video instruction. Mine anything that looks interesting, and the dwarves will tell you if it’s worthless.

Anything offered in the season 1 pass, will be eventually tossed into the general loot pool, and you can earn them randomly by finding crates or during missions. The developers never want to make anyone feel forced to grind, nor ever miss out on any gear or cosmetics. They want you to have maximum FUN.

@Kolbex , such a green beard. ;)

Here is a real playtime stat:
2-10-2022 4-14-25 PM
And half of that is probably drinking beers and dancing! For Karl!

Nothing is going ‘away soon’, as far as I know. This isn’t some f2p GAAS BS game.

Just do the assignments the game will propose to you. They are just normal missions, that the game picks randomly, and upon completion of a series they will reward you with extra resources, or a new weapon, etc
As you play, you will get perk points, to unlock perks.

And well, not a lot to say. This isn’t some complex mmo progression game, there are no advanced tips for progression. You get money and resources, and with them you buy upgrades for the weapons and items. As you rank up, you will get eventually assignments to new weapons and overclocks. And then you will eventually unlock deep dives.

Just don’t sell resources to get money to unlock x, as eventually you will need them.

@Kolbex hey, I’ll take all the advice that’s on offer. Thanks.

@lordkosc I like the sound of the general loot pool, but what is that? What are crates? Is this a deep dive thing? So far I’m just told to mine # of X and every now and then get some neat side mission like hacking a tech thing. I have not seen any mechanics for loot (or I am missing them). I have seen random dwarf boxes or Molley’s that are not mine, but I can’t seem to do anything with them.

@TurinTur What are the “assignments it throws at me?” I have daily missions at the season terminal. I have some weekly thing. I also have an assignment board near the mission terminal where it has several rows of options that are 3 missions each. I have one of those going that seems to be teaching me new mission types (egg hunt, recovery, etc.)

Overall it sounds like I can play it super casual per week for as long as I like and it’s the same as grinding 10 hours a day for a week. And that is a nice change. So nice, I might be motivated to tip them via a cosmetic dlc pack. =)

Thanks all for helping out this…I’m, green 5 o’clock shadow.
