Pandemic, looming recession… yeah, I don’t think an uneventful debate on a race that’s basically over will drive many eyeballs or clicks.
Still, it’s nice to see Biden performing well. He’s getting better at communicating his brand. It’s a good sign for the general.
Nice to see the two guys trying to outdo each other on who takes climate change more seriously.

There was an interesting take on Pod Save this week in which they proffer that Bernie knows he’s not going to win the nomination and that this debate is sort of him conceding and getting his voters on board to vote for Biden. I clearly mangled the concept but I think I go the main beats.
That’s being VERY charitable to Bernie. I’m pretty sure he just wants to remain on the national stage as long as he possibly can.

Bernie just baited into defending China and Cuba. Yeah, it was a trap, but it was a really obvious one and he charged right into it.
I can see that but what he wants and what’s pragmatic to beat the current WH occupier are 2 different things. And I think at the end of the day, of course he wants to win, but he and Biden really want that orange scumbag beaten.
If that’s the goal it’s not real clear in his content and presentation. He’s been on the attack a lot. He seems to be again playing to his base instead of seeking to expand it. Unless he thinks these same old attacks will make people who support Biden, or even those who are in the “meh, okay, Biden” camp, switch over I don’t know what he’s doing.
I think we’re fucked either way but doubly so if Bernie voters cant or wont pull the lever for Biden.
Honestly I was expecting Bernie to reach across to Joe more than playing this like a regular debate, so I am disappointed. The world is on fire. Is Bernie really going to drag this out like in 2016?!?
