Anyone purchase this yet? I was reading through some Steam reviews and there seems to be some anxiety over the port not being all it can be?
I bought it and played it a bit today. I had no real issues whatsoever.

Disgaea PC is supposed to be an ‘enhanced port’ of 2006’s Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness, which itself was an enhanced port of 2003’s Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. Hilariously, though, the new features that are meant to make it ‘enhanced’ actively make the game worse. The options menu offers depth of field, screen end blur, character filtering, V-Sync, and SSAO, but all of them screw with the game in different ways.
Enabling V-Sync makes the game run at half speed, while disabling it causes massive screen-tearing. The character filter makes all the sprites blurry messes that are impossible to discern. Depth of field is applied poorly and leaves big rectangles of blurriness around every sprite. SSAO causes huge graphical glitches, leaving flickering black lines plastered over the game. And to add insult to injury, the screen end blur just looks plain ugly.
Everything that makes Disgaea PC enhanced on paper simply serves to make it an annoying, borderline unplayable experience.
I won’t say the Destructoid guy is wrong, but he’s overreacting more than a little bit. I personally had no issue with V-sync On whatsoever (game speed was normal and fluid), and I had no massive screen-tearing with it set to Off. I prefer the characters without the filter, but the filter doesn’t make them a blurry mess. I haven’t tried DOF or SSAO because I don’t care about those things in a 2D, pixel art kind of game.
Some people are having issues. Some people (probably most people) have no issues at all. The port has some nice things - for instance, the mouse works in a lot of places where only gamepad buttons worked, and apart from a few non-critical functions, you can play the whole game using the mouse only, which is great.
In short, I think it’s a good port, I’m happy that I can play Disgaea on the PC (and I hope I get to play the sequels too), and I don’t really care about the “enhanced” part of the equation. YMMV.

Me too. 50 hours in D2 in a few weeks. Preordered 5, got a demo key. Such a great game.
Demo appears to be the full game and expires a week after next week’s release (according to someone on Reddit). I’ve already got 5 hours in the demo 😛
If I can finish D1 in two days, I can “finish” D5 in a week :)
Does anyone ever actually “finish” Disgaea 1? I had 200 hours in and I still couldn’t beat Baal.
I put in 3 hours last night with the demo. Love all of the changes.
Well, I picked up D1 on the Switch and got to Cave of Ordeals 3, the best grind spot. Good enough.
I was debating grinding in item world and the such but man, it is painful to do so without all the QoL improvements.
Considering just playing D2 or D1: Dimension 2? for the story.
