Okay, I’m calling it here: the next Duke Nukem game will ship in 2014 and will debut on all three next-gen consoles (and PC). It will ditch the two-weapon limit but keep regenerating health. It will lose most of the overt sexism/misogyny in favor of making Duke a more obvious self-parody of 80s action heroes. It will retain the interactive/mini-game stuff but will also be a more competent shooter. It will fall somewhere around an 8 on the 7-9 scale. It will sell decently but not be a blockbuster. And that is when Duke will become just another franchise that gets no more and no less attention than any other middling game series.
Someone preserve this post so I may be proven horribly wrong in three short years!
As an aside, I played a bit of EDuke32 last night and the game is still perfectly playable with a few modern enhancements. My biggest complaint is the mouselook feels a bit syrupy. If anyone is using EDuke32 and has tips for the best mouselook settings, please share.
Also, the treatment of Octobrains in Duke3D was unconscionable. The developers were clearly anti-intellectuals.
Except it’s far more likely that they wanted them to exit in a scary way, and the mouth leads to the stomach.
Why is it far more likely? The guy who wrote the film has said exactly what it’s meant to represent. Given that Giger was also involved, the sexual undertones aren’t a huge surprise.

Given who responded to me I’m happy to discount those people as any kind of authority on, well, anything.
Basic research will show that an awful lot of film critics go with the writer’s interpretation.
Edit: More importantly, I was trying to point out that while the original scene (and surrounding scenes) was meant in that fashion, it did so in a very subtle and disturbing way. Duke on the other hand overtly sexualises the whole thing and marries sex, forced impregnation, and violence towards women in a great big braindead package.
