I’ve mostly made my (modest by ED standards, never exceeding 20 million in cash) fortune with shorter range trading and community goal participation, but I did travel out to Fehu once and brought back whatever for some nice money. Also when I went to Maia to buy some meta-alloys I lucked out and snagged 3 hauling missions that each paid more than 1 million AND all had destinations in the same system. Not bad when you’re still in an Asp.

Just travelled all the way from Orcus to Deciat to meet an engineer, but she needs meta-alloys, and I then found out that the only place where I can get meta-alloys is 300+ ly away.

I better equip a fuel scoop. Ouch. ;)

Guardians will be out on October 25th.

Thanks! Yay!

This is pretty much when I set the game down about a month ago and said “Nope”

I hope to return, but this silly grind is just not fun. I miss some story beats. Anything!

Wow that’s sooner than I expected! I’ve already been back in the game a bit recently, looking forward to keeping up that habit.

patch day tomorrow! yay! very ready to get back into the game. I got stuck because the route planner choked to death on the combination of the star density in the galaxies’ core and a souped up pimped out ASP.

The patch is live! Gonna take a while to download, but here’s a very detailed changelog if you’ve got a few hours to kill.

Launch trailer for 2.2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iojsbuOzEuQ

It’s a 13GB download on steam.

Wow. I might actually get back into ED now.

Awesome video but that is so far from my experience in this game it’s almost laughable. I’d love for the other players on here to let me know if you’re average play session in E:D has even a fraction of the excitement, variety, and story that video implies.

A more honest video would be about 20 seconds of space combat, 10 seconds of menu hunting, 30 seconds of FTL jumps, 20 seconds of swearing at the damn game because you miscalculated your planetary entry and now you can either fly over barren rock for half an hour or go back into space and try again, and 10 seconds of marveling at the beautiful solitude of space.

Snark aside I’ll jump back in again after the update and poke around but I just wish my average play session was filled with the kind of excitement shown in the video.

That sounds like a serious you problem. ;)

Yeah I’m terrible at getting close to your destination with the planetary entry mechanics. Count that up as another experience where I’m sure they were going for some sort of realism but ended up with simply punishing the player for not being perfect. Sometimes I wonder if they do all there playtesting internally and have never sat down with a new player to watch how they interact with this game.

Take a cue from No Mans Sky, yeah that game was a disappointment but one thing it got right was the experience of going from space to planet and back. I know it wasn’t “realistic” but damn if it wasn’t fun. And really if getting to and from planets is a pain in the ass I’m just going to avoid it altogether, and now we both lose.

See, to my brain it’s a simple as “follow the lines,” but where are you having trouble along the way?

I guess I just don’t understand the lines? And nowhere is it explained in game and there’s no tutorial as far as I can tell.

This is a decent guide with images. There are many guides I’m finding, but they’re mainly text only, which is SO SILLY.

No. NMS is a survival crafter with procedurally generated planets to explore. Elite: Dangerous is a space simulator. Emphasis on the simulator.

That’s fine they can simulate all you want but if your simulation is more work than it’s worth its not a feature worth having. I know I’m in the minority here and E:D can be something of a sacred cow but in my opinion the planetary approach is too much like work. They absolutely nailed the station docking too which is weird to me that this feels so worse. I could dock at stations all day and I feel like a real space pilot!

Don’t worry about it. Like half of what ED presents is barely thought through when Frontier releases it. A year after release, planetary landings are still pretty raw and more or less pointless.

Fuck yea im back!

I left the game as i got stuck flying my explorer asp towards the black hole in the center of the galaxy. The route planner died on me. They done fixed it. And not just that but the map now loads snappy as fuck.

Moi, je suis one happy happy explorer!
