Fortnite - A New Game by Epic

I think Balasarius is referring to the PvE content, which last I checked (not recently) was still premium-access only.

They continue to charge for the part of the game that they’ve done no work on.

Resist to install this is weakening.

My 9 year old son was begging for v-bucks for the stupid triggerfish skin or whatever. We just buy him the season pass and none of this weekly skin for $10 a hit nonsense. It is interesting though, his whole posse of school buddies play together with headsets… it’s like the BBS’s of this generation.

Weird question, but I’m trying to hook up a PS4 controller to my iPhone 11 Pro Max running the latest version of iOS 13. I find that when I do so, I have an issue where the controller doesn’t recognize the R2 button for “fire”, and instead maps it to “X”. Then, when I press X, the button autofires continuously. I’ve tried searching for help, but to no avail. Any ideas?

So this is it for the Save The World portion of the game. F2P not happening.

Today we’re bringing Save the World out of Early Access and have decided that it will remain a premium experience rather than going free-to-play. Development of new content will slow down after this official release, but the adventure doesn’t end here for Save the World.

While the main story of Save the World is complete, there are still adventures to be had. Continue battling the Husks in Twine Peaks, take on each Save the World seasonal event, or evolve your collection by completing each Venture’s season… the choice is yours.

I bought in back at release for the Save the World stuff , I enjoyed it a lot but they really sidelined it when the Battle Royale part eclipsed it with 1000x more popularity. Seems Save the World is now being put out to pasture.

I haven’t played in well over a year, was the tower defense base potion of the game ever improved ? I enjoyed it, but felt like the enemy pathing was really dumb.

Apparently the story in the game isn’t even done. A user on reddit said:

I cant say its surprising that they are doing this, but the game is literally unfinished story wise. Theres a whole last area thats supposed to be volcanic and shit, with a narrative that actually ends the story. Its currently still a generic tileset with no narrative quests attached. Everything about this update is just the best way they could tell people that support has ended and the game has been put on life support.
I know STW doesn’t matter to a lot of people but I don’t understand why Epic couldn’t just let the devs wrap up the freaking story! It shouldn’t be surprise given what they did to Paragon but it kind of hurts.

One portion of their game is a huge success, while the other portion is not, so it makes sense to focus resources on the part that’s a success and abandon the other part.

I honestly didn’t even know this part of the game hadn’t been abandoned long ago.

A games company abandoning their game isn’t exactly confidence inspiring, not matter the reason.
I didn’t purchase Fortnite - I purchased Save The World, which is a co-op and or solo game.

Yep, same boat. With all the Fortnite cash they’re swimming in you’d think they could at least finish the game that their first fans bought for $40.

Difference being that the part they are abandoning is the one that people BOUGHT, the other was free, and probably in the start subsidised by those that paid for STW.

Dick move by Epic, course, they’re half owned by China so, no surprise.

Hahahaha. What a lame-ass end.

I wonder if they are leaving it a premium experience so 99% of their player base will never buy into it to see its not finished?

Look, if it wouldn’t be because of the success of the f2p BR, they would have pulled the plug two years ago. It never was a successful product.

This could be huge, especially for Apple. They can’t afford to lose Fortnite. I can’t stand Tim Sweeny, but I hope this works out for him.

The logic he’s using to allow people to pay in app is legit IMO. Apple certainly doesn’t get a cut when you use other apps to order food and the like do they? I can’t imagine that’s possible.

They only take a cut on digital goods.

If I buy a gift card that comes as a code through Best Buy’s app, that’s a digital good. I bet Epic would have a case…

And it’s gone from the iOS store.

Sure is.

Apple’s Statement:

Today, Epic Games took the unfortunate step of violating the App Store guidelines that are applied equally to every developer and designed to keep the store safe for our users. As a result their Fortnite app has been removed from the store. Epic enabled a feature in its app which was not reviewed or approved by Apple, and they did so with the express intent of violating the App Store guidelines regarding in-app payments that apply to every developer who sells digital goods or services.

Epic has had apps on the App Store for a decade, and have benefited from the App Store ecosystem - including it’s tools, testing, and distribution that Apple provides to all developers. Epic agreed to the App Store terms and guidelines freely and we’re glad they’ve built such a successful business on the App Store. The fact that their business interests now lead them to push for a special arrangement does not change the fact that these guidelines create a level playing field for all developers and make the store safe for all users. We will make every effort to work with Epic to resolve these violations so they can return Fortnite to the App Store.
