Forza Horizon 4 - CaRPG in the UK

I usually change cars every three races or every 40 minutes or so…

The 86 Ford Escort RS Turbo you are talking about is a skill machine. If you look at the upgrades available you can get 3x the multiplier speed, 7x total multiplier, the crash protection, longer skill chain timer, and several other skill upgrades that make it ideal for earning skill points.

Upgrade the mechanical heavily and put a good tune on it. You can earn lots of skill tokens and influence just by driving around in a field and making the occasional e-brake turn to keep your skill chain going.

Just remember skill chains max out at 500,000. No point in going further.

The new progression system is pretty damn tricky. Instead of leveling up your character, you level up 15 things at the same time (asphalt race, dirt race, street race, drifting, skill points, photography, etc). This makes a much faster progression for the first 20 hours of the game, in comparison with FH3, as several things can climb up in level in parallel, so even if the wheelspin have now tons of crap in the form of clothing and claxos and all that, the fact you are getting so many of them now make them fair. You even win cars faster than in FH3, in this period of time.

However, once you reach level 95 or so, things slow down, as all the categories have been leveled up a bit so the easy to get levels, the first 4 or 5, are done. Now you start getting wheelspins much more sparsely, and it’s then when the clothing and claxons will start to piss you off.

‘With luck, pushing players to buy some mtx’, that’s what I imagine Microsoft is thinking.

By the way, the simulation damage setting is total bullshit. In offroad races with jumps, your vehicle start taking damage after a few ones, and in the third lap or so you will start losing positions with respect the AI vehicles. The bullshit part is that the AI cars aren’t affected by the setting, fo a race I could win easily (8 seconds diff) in 1st position with the simulation damage turned off, I got instead 7th or 8th with simulation damage on!!

I’ll be the weird one here - I’m driving the Renault Clio in the Track Toys category tuned to the upper end of A class.

Why am I doing that? Because if you crank the AI to “Unbeatable” and go for street racing events you get a mixed grid of Clios and the Jaguar XKR-S, which are very different animals. The Clio is nippy and good in the corners and the Jag is a monster in a straight line against the Renault, so if you find the right race you fight past the Jags in the corners then watch the rear views nervously as they loom up and past.

In unbeatable you start the race in last place and if one of the Jags escapes off the front it can be really hard/impossible to chase down.

This is something you should only do though if you’re looking for racing, not XP.

I did something similar in a lot of races in Forza Horizon 2. I just love those types of “better at the corners” vs “better in a straight line” types of match ups.

Although I did it on a difficulty lower than Unbeatable, obviously. I don’t think I’ve even tried that one because of its name.

The release of this game has inspired me to go back to FH3, which I never really got all that far into, for whatever reason. Considering I spent actual money on that game, I figure I should at least dig into it a bit more before moving up.

You get a lot of races that look like this.

It almost becomes a puzzle game of how to get in front of the straight line cars before the long straight bit of the circuit appears and how to use the other Clios to slow down the Jags enough to finish first. It certainly feels really good when you finally do it.

That was a beautiful race to watch. The only place where you messed up was the turn you took at the one minute mark. If I was you, I would have reversed time on that turn and tried it again. You did beautifully on the rest of the track though.

i have rewinds switched off, so I can’t do that.

I got them the next time though! One of the Clios split the Jaguars and got in a scrap with them that let me stay in touch. I got into first just before the long 100% throttle section that runs down to the reservoir crossing and then 2nd-to-5th (two Jags, two Clios), got tangled up behind me allowing me to cruise home.

So, once you start a Team Adventure, you can never leave. WTF.

Put your controller down and at the start of the next race the game will mark you as AFK and boot you back to free roam.

It’s dumb, but there you go.

Abandoned car barn radius should be smaller. Damn so much time to find some of them…

Hey guys, I just picked this up on gamepass. If you want to add me your friend leaderboards I’ll try and get some good times for you to beat. I’m on “ChappersUS” on the xbox profile.

This is what your drone is for.

Drive around the edge of the barn circle. If you don’t accidentally bump into the barn then park and zig zag across the area in the drone. Done.

The barns are also often the same half circle design (they look like military bunkers). That has helped me when looking whether with a drone or no. Hope that helps!

It turns out you’re already on my friends list. That gamertag doesn’t sound familiar. Did you change it at one point from something else?

Nope, always been that, I just don’t game enough

The game started off pretty stable, but at this point it’s crashing constantly, basically making it completely unplayable. Hopefully they patch it and get it resolved…very soon.

I am once again reminded why you should never buy a PC game when it’s new…

No way, it’s great because (spoiler for people who like searching) there’s roads leading up to almost all of them. Just watch as you drive and go down one of the little gated paths that aren’t on the minimap :)

These forzathon lives are pretty cool… until they get drift zones. Lost 3 of them to those today. Scores were pretty much impossible for us in the allowed time.

One of them spawned a ramp right in front of that chapel roof board I couldn’t hit normally.
