Gran Turismo 7 - Welcome back to the race

Certainly, they could have thrown in some paint colours (since there are many) or wheels as a reward if they weren’t going to do anything else, at least you’d feel like you were getting something for achieving a ‘Collector Level’.

I really wish there were races that matched the cars better. The vast majority of the cars I have are ones I’ll never race because there are better ones to use at any given time that are already tuned up. It’d be cool to have a race that, no matter which vehicle you chose, the other vehicles would automatically match it so that all that remains is to test your skill.

That’s one of the few things that I feel Forza Horizon 5 got right. Basically, you could make the entire game revolve around whatever car you wanted. That comes with its own set of problems, but at least it means any one of the 8,472 cars you own can be your main car and you’ll have a ton of content.

It’s kind of ironic that Gran Turismo 7 takes the approach of making cars more meaningful by giving you fewer of them, but even then, some of them are just filler. :(

Which is another reason I’m puzzled that people are pissed about the cost of high-end cars in the game. There are more pressing issues in this game’s economy than the $3 million it costs for an essentially useless Batmobile supercar.

Yeah, I got a 3.4M credit Lambo from mine. I have also gotten 500K credits a couple times from 4 star tickets.

They did release a patch this week that “fixes” the rewards this week. I think the changes should appease the masses and we can start complaining about other things. I know it didn’t bother most people here, but if you do the daily races weekly it can be hard to keep up with buying cars if you have a life.

My car buying has certainly slowed down as I only race one course a day and do some of the missions/licenses. I’m buying from the low-end up, since I don’t actually need any cars for anything, having some for every type of race that I’ve seen. Car buying will get slower as they get more expensive and my winnings don’t keep up.

I don’t really care that much, though. The cafe menu ran out way too soon and I don’t feel as much of a drive to play more than a ‘marathon’ a day with that completed. And since I’ve seen cars now hitting 20 million credits, I know there’s no point in chasing the collection either.

So, guess it’s just relaxing with the occasional race and enjoy testing my skills on circuit experiences and missions.

It’s weird that the update is so welcomed. I find it rather underwhelming. Oooo, three more cars to a lineup of cars that I’ll probably never race, by a manufacturer that already has plenty of other cars. What about cars for brands that have only one or two cars to buy or brands that aren’t in there yet? Licensing must be tough, though, so I get it.

Still, until they make car collection ranks mean something and roulette be rewarding, I’ll just keep focusing on the fun of circuits and missions and still trying to get all gold in the super licenses.

Here are the specifics straight from Sony:

Three news cars, a new layout for the Spa-Francorchamps track already in the game, and two new backdrops for people who care about taking pictures of the cars. As @Equisilus notes, underwhelming. If I hadn’t read that it had been updated, I wouldn’t have even noticed.

The big things are:
Fixed the fact that rear wheel drive cars sucked balls
Added the ability to rent cars for events… That’s awesome

The rest whatever… I figured they would fix the cars, but I didn’t see the renting part coming. It’s totally negates grinding cars for me. Not that I have even run a single online race in this game yet. I haven’t had time. :(

Ah, indeed, I hadn’t noticed there was more! Patch notes here:

And you’re obviously referring to this:

I can’t even begin to imagine what that means. Is it like trying to drive the dirt events without dirt tires, because that’s one of their errors that bit me in the ass? I presume it’s not that drastic.

For me it’s less a matter of time and more a matter of Sony’s monthly surcharge on multiplayer. I’m not interested in paying it.

Apparently RWD cars in the game have had a tendency to (unrealistically?) oversteer or just lose traction period when braking (forward weight transfer).

Did they ever say anything in patch notes about changing the roulette odds? I had probably 20 spins of just gold and never won any other rewards. After the economy patch I went back and my very first spin of the wheel I got a Lambo that’s easily my fastest car.

Yes it was really bad and very wrong. You couldn’t get back on the power going out of a corner as the car would just want to fly off the road. I had to run with TC to 1 on most RWD cars because of this. I thought I was just losing my touch, but many people noticed the same thing. So kudos to them for fixing it. I really don’t have much to complain about except that I don’t have time to drive. :(

I’ve said it before, but I’m convinced they’re punking us with those roulette spins. I think it’s pretty funny, but if I were one of their players who was seriously serious about collecting cars, I’d be pissed. So I’d hate if they changed it, partly because I’ve already had my spins, but also because I do think it’s funny.

Given that I was steadfastly trying to keep TC at zero, and given that the place I left off was giving me fits with American muscle cars, I suspect this update will be very relevant to me.

What a boner, though. First the street tires on dirt events and now a fundamental screw-up in how traction is modeled in RWD cars? That’s not a confidence builder.

-Tom

I don’t care if they change the odds but it would be nice if they actually admitted what the odds are instead of making it seem like they’re even.

Isn’t that how all slot machines work, though? By hiding the actual distribution of results? It’s just that GT7 not only hides them, it actively misrepresents them! Ha, aren’t we dummies for falling for it?

-Tom

I didn’t buy Gran Casino 7, though. :P

Or I didn’t think I was, anyway

Yes it will help a ton. If RWD cars really drove like they did before the patch there would be no Mustang drivers left alive. I’d say I’m above average on throttle and braking and I could not drive some of the cars without turning on TC 1. It was nuts.

A month goes by and even with an update, it’s all quiet in this thread.

But I get it. The problems with the reward system are worse than ever. Tracking over the past month, and getting the ‘marathon’ award every day, only three times did I not get the lowest tier reward on the roulette spin. The three that weren’t were a car I already had, an invite to buy an expensive car, and a tuning part (although, the tuning part is usually worth less than the lowest money).

I’m still moving along. The new menu books (and therefore World Circuits) give me something to aim for, and they are tough. The Lightweight K-Cup one required me to tune up a car pretty well to place in two of the three races. The next menu book that I chose (the Prototype series) is going to be crazy difficult for me. I would assume I’m unlike most that play GT7, but I enjoy the low-to-mid tier vehicles and once I get to the ultra-fast vehicles I start to lose interest. I don’t recall the fuel consumption and tire wear being something I minded in past games but I must have gotten old and don’t enjoy the need to watch for pit stops.

Anyone find anything else in the update that makes it interesting other than the new cafe menus? Adding more cars doesn’t get me too excited when I can’t afford half of the cars in the game anyway. Yet another Toyota, what is up with that? Are they the major sponsor of this game?

Just replying to what I wrote about the last update that fixed some weird calculation with how traction worked in RWD cars, it did indeed help. I’d been banging my head against a series of races in American muscle cars, but after that last update, I beat it on the first try.

Nothing jumps out at me. Except this:

Partially fixed? Must have been quite a bug. Maybe they’ll complete the fix in the next patch!
