Grognard Wargamer Thread!

I am so hyped by this! It must be out soon surely.

Week 2 is up, https://ospreypublishing.com/blog/Free_eBooks_week_2/

Thanks for the reminder about the Osprey books! I’ve already read a fair bit of the books on the Hurricane and on US heavy cruisers, and in each case I learned a lot. Great stuff!

Old School Tactical pacific is here! So stoked. Such a great system and so far I havent bought any bad games from flying pig so I am hopeful on this one too.

Someone put CNA in Tabletop Simulator:

Beautiful.

In my younger nerdy years I played board wargames like crazy, but almost always solo. Kudos to you and your purchase!

Thank you!

Old School Tacrical does look beautiful. I should try it one of these days.

As a PSA, 1985 Deadly Northern Lights is out. NATO vs Warsaw Pact in Scandinavia. It’s sort of a reimaning of SPI’s The Next War system.

If it’s of interest, grab it now because it will last about one or two These things are almost sold out with preorders.

Two caveats: first the first game in the series this links to is unavailable. Second, in a couple years or so they plan to republish the three games (including a Middle East game not yet released) as a full trilogy package (at what I suspect will be a crazy price) so maybe it’s better to wait for that?

Ah, myself from 1985 would have loved it, though at 160+ Euros, I probably could not have afforded it then!

Does the dog get to play? You should make him play the dogfaces.

Same here. I would have dreamed about this game, just like I dreamed about GDW’s Europa series (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgamefamily/104/europa-series/linkeditems/boardgamefamily). I imagined this series being complete and my playing WW2 across all theaters.

Modern PC games obviously made this much easier to achieve.

Thats Surrey Yeah she is a good dog:)

She loves it when I wargame. Just drags her dog bed under the table and curls up.

Unlike cats, who think they should be moving the counters. And do.

lmao, there is a joke in there somewhere about how cats have derailed Barbarossa more times than Smolensk at this point :)

Indeed! They also cost Lee Gettysburg, Napoleon Watterloo, and probably were responsible for the disappearance of Atlantis.

They toppled the Comanche Empire.

Thank you so much for pinging the thread that its available! This is perfect for me I am really interested in this theater and missed the first 1985 by dallying. Not this time! Really looking forward to getting my now ordered copy! :)

The new Osprey books look great, but the website seems to have stopped working while I was trying to check out. Will try again in a bit.
