Hitman III - Hat trick of Death

The games have a continuous narrative that follows the missions in order. If you care about that, than play them in order. Otherwise, it doesn’t matter.

It’s kind of up to you. I do the first–beat each level once then move on. You’ll get familiarity back pretty quickly.

P0 is just a reordering of the H1 missions with different targets, new cutscenes and narrative, and maybe different item locations. You can play it whenever.

I think you automatically get upgraded to the GotY edition when you import levels. You need to make sure you’ve imported your H1 levels into H2 before starting the H3 import process.

Not necessarily because of the improved engine, which is a relatively minor upgrade. But your story mission and escalation completions do not get carried over when you import progression into H3 (though your challenges, mastery levels, and unlocks do.)

In the pre mission setup, what does it do if you select a mission story? It looks like it puts a lightbulb on it, but I’m not sue what effect that has.

How do people feel about the ‘instinct vision’? Other than the personal satisfaction of not using it, does it have any effect on anything? It feels kinda cheap to be able to spot the target anywhere on the map.

I’m really terrible at the game. I get caught doing stuff all the time. Anyone want to friend me up on Epic so I can see how bad I am on the leader boards? I’m robc04 there too. I plan on trying again and to be more careful, but on my first play through I decided I wouldn’t sweat it too much, otherwise I may fizzle out.

Disguises. Disguises. Disguises.

But the mission stories usually give you a kill opportunity after completing them. Not always without complications though.

I do use them, but I always seems to get caught killing the target or doing something else I shouldn’t. Or, just getting caught by the spotter (white dot) people and then it turns to violence. Patience isn’t one of my strong suits :-)

I know there is no right answer to this, but what do you think is the most enjoyable way to approach playing? I’m starting from the Hitman 1 campaign, playing in HM3. I’m going to go through each mission and win it once to get through all 3 games that way, then I will circle back. I’m playing on professional difficulty. So my question…

For the first time through, do you just activate one of the available mission stories, follow that through and get the kill(s) without worrying about the challenges and whatnot? Then on replays pick some challenges and try to achieve them? Am I losing out on how the systems work by playing on professional instead of the hardest difficulty?

Professional is fine. I wouldn’t do the hardest difficulty first, which usually adds more guards and makes areas harder to navigate. Good after you know the map. I found the HITMAN 2016 maps much harder on the highest difficult than the HITMAN 2 maps.

I approach each mission blind. No mission story selected. I explore the map, see which areas are restricted. Case the joint as best I can collecting useful items along the way before I commit to a path or mission story I discover during the mission.

If you are having trouble you can always save the game before pulling the trigger on a assassination attempt.

Yeah, this. On professional you can save as many times as you want. I savescum like a champ. It’s allowed! This game is a sandbox. Have fun your way :) It’s totally ok to go for a chaotic violent end too. (Not that sneaking an emetic into someone’s drink, following them into the toilet, and then drowning them in their own puke isn’t violent…)

I approached the first 2 blind because I didn’t even know I could select a story, then I selected a story on the 3rd map. It did feel a bit cheesy giving me an icon to follow. You can discover these stories just by eavesdropping even if you don’t select one, right? I think there is also an option to turn off the icons.

I started saving more on the 3rd map too. I think party of my problem is that I’m not patient enough to wait until I can get the target alone. In my last mission, I just opened fire when the target was being escorted through a tunnel by 3 guards because I figured I could gun them all down before they could do anything. Of course that hurts my score because I killed non targets.

All mission stories are always available on all difficulties and don’t have to be selected. Many are time sensitive too as on some missions there is time progression of certain events. These maps are usually more interesting e.g. The fashion show in Paris and the Miami race track.

IIRC selecting a mission story before starting the mission was something they added in HITMAN 2.

I’ve played a couple of hundred hours of these games over the years and didn’t even know you could do that.

In HITMAN 2 they introduce it to you directly with a new screen where you can select a mission story, I think after you complete the Miami mission for the first time.

Also, please please please ignore the score for a looooong time and just PLAY. The Most Fun I had in these games was going in and trying to do a really badass hit but not knowing anything about the level, trying stuff out, and having it go horribly awry. RECOVERING from crazy failure is easily as great as being an assassin badass, and possibly more satisfying. You miss out on all they if you focus on score.

My recommendation? Wait until you know a map decently well and then get into score and Feat / Challenge completion. Until then just follow your nose and all the delicious breadcrumbs they’ve left lying everywhere.

I’m mostly ignoring the score while I’m playing and just noticing how low it is after the mission :-)

Is there value in playing the Hitman 1/2 story and missions (in the Hitman 3 game) before the latest ones? I’m just catching up and know I will love all of this from my days with Hitman a decade or more ago, just wondering if the sequencing matters at all or if I should just tackle them in the order they go on deep discount (DLC in Epic Store for 1/2).

I answered this above :)

HITMAN 3: Seven Deadly Sins will be released over time through seven unique content packs. Each of the seven packs are focused on a different sin and include a visually distinct contract, sin-themed unlockable suit and at least one sin-themed item that can be used across the World of Assassination. Some items may also have unique properties to remind you of the sin they are inspired by…

The first content pack will be available on 30 March and will invite players back to Dubai, where coins are overflowing and new gameplay mechanics will tempt your own personal greed.

Just saw this on gg.deals that Hitman3 released a “Starter pack” which includes the Training facility and the first Hitman 2 mission Night Call = Hawke’s Bay (the smaller night infiltration mission, not the racetrack). More interesting though is that it also appears that Dubai from Hitman 3 will be available for a limited time (expires April 5, not sure if it’s a claim and keep, or it locks again after), AND (maybe most important?) it sounds like you should be able to import Hitman 2 into this edition.

Interesting dilemma about whether to do the import to Epic and play there/get the freebies vs waiting for Steam.

Just finished a few weeks (42 hours) of Hitman 1-3 on the Hitman 3 engine. What a pleasure of a trilogy.

Besides two levels that I replayed for all challenges on very early on, I mostly just played through without much restarting/challenge hunting. Based on the two that I did almost entirely complete, I’m looking forward to picking away at all the other levels bit by bit. It’s quite rare for me to finish a single player game and want to replay all or portions of it immediately, so this is quite the feat in game design - they really did a great job with level design and length, and stories/challenges/feats/etc to make it interesting to go back through with a different objective.

Really looking forward to what this team does with the 007 franchise, given how fond I was of Goldeye on N64.

Waiting on Steam because I can wait, and I want all the integrated steam stuff + I already have everything there already. I don’t want to trust the whole import with the snafu.

I did the account migration/activation thingie yesterday, and it was of course clunky. I had an IOI account from before. The problem was, when I started Hitman 3, it didn’t want to accept my email, it said the email was already used in an IOI account.
That’s so stupid! Do you how the standard thing in a website is to have to buttons, sign in or log in and sign up? The issue here is Hitman 3 only having a sign up option, and it’s obligatory.
After trying different stuff, in the end the solution was fairly easy: just use another email to enter, then in Options you can change the IOI account name, including one that already exists.
Exit the game, go to the page where you link and migrate the account, enter in the game again, done.

SuperBunnyHop’s released an excellent on the reboot trilogy (I especially appreciate his thumbnail choice):
