Idiot conspiracy theorists

There would be poetic justice in him going down based on something that was not true - but I will not advocate for that happen.

Useful detail, and it makes the story less gross. But also he chose to respond live on his show

"Jones publicly responded on a broadcast of his show that he is being framed by Chris Mattei, the lawyer for the Sandy Hook families and went on making what Mattei and his law firm, Koskoff, Koskoff and Bieder claim are threats against them.

“You’re trying to set me up with child porn, I’ll get your ass,” Jones states on the broadcast. “One million dollars, you little gang members. One million dollars to put your head on a pike.” Jones then pounds a photograph of Mattei and goes into a rant at one point stating, “I’m gonna kill…”

Basically says that he doesn’t read the fine print either - probably part of the reason he sent them off in the first place.

And the judge heard the show. Article also repeats that he didn’t know.

These idiots always have trouble when they enter a court of law, where real rules apply and facts actually matter. I think they get used to being able to say whatever they want on the internet, but judges ain’t got time to play that.

I need to get that engraved and hang it on my office door. Or perhaps it will be my epitaph.

The lawsuit focused narrowly on the claim by James Fetzer and Mike Palecek that Pozner had forged or faked the death certificate, though it also alluded to other convoluted theories advanced by Fetzer on his blog, including the theory that Noah was not Pozner’s son.

“Fetzer acted with actual malice,” court documents say, also accusing the writer of publishing statements knowing that they “were false or with reckless disregard for the truth or falsity of the statements.”

God, I hope more bad things happen to Alex Jones.

I wonder, seriously, if there’s some kind of link that could be made to things like mental illness or drug addiction.

This kind of conspiracy theorist crap seems to be on par with those things, in terms of just ruining people and their lives.

There have been plenty of dumb conspiracy theories about the guv’mint in my lifetime, but I don’t remember any as dumb and relatively mainstream as QAnon. Anyone buying into this one has completely lost their grip on reality.

Kinda sounds like MMO addiction, except that MMO addicts are aware that Everquest isn’t real.

the realest ARG

They have, that’s the scary part. The one thing that conspiracy theory people didn’t have before was a total information bubble they could surround themselves in (along with all the other true believers). Sure, maybe they could ignore the news, but they were at least exposed to it. And they were exposed to a lot of people who would tell them they were crazy.

Now? Information is siloed and they’re part of a social group who all reinforce each others beliefs. This is scary stuff, IMO, and I worry we’re only starting to see the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this stuff. PsyOp campaigns are going to be scary effective.

I think intense belief, of the level that we typically associate with religious cults, can have a brain impact very similar to more overtly anatomical impacts like mental illness and drug addiction. It’s all brain chemistry in one form or another, whether facilitated by thought patterns, chemical ingestion, or trauma of some sort.

If you view the extreme right as being essentially a political cult with an absolutist belief in their faction, where reality doesn’t matter, and all examples enforce the core tenets no matter the actual import, then the situation in US politics becomes much more clear.

And that, I think is the key distinction between what has become of the right in the US and the remnant of US conservatives who refused to go down that rabbit hole.

That dude went to jail, right? I assume he was then murdered in prison?

Oh, I see that he’s still awaiting trial.

That dude’s dead.

One of our clan buddies went abut funny, started wearing a saucepan on his head complaining about WiFi and chemicals and we lost touch with him. It was quite sad.

WHAT THEN?

I would go on Love Connection now if it were still on. It would be super weird.
