Little Indie Games Worth Knowing About (Probably)

So this came out today, and after one level, it’s FUCKING BRILLIANT.

I had a better time with a gamepad than a mouse/keyboard, but YMMV.

That sounds good, except the Eurogamer review said the first half of the game was a lot better than the second. Tom also just gushed about it on twitter, but I’m going to wait until more people have finished it to see if Eurogamer’s reaction was atypical or accurate.

How about a zip and a flip, courtesy of My Friend Pedro?

Were those gifs made by the game? I love that it does that.

Yeah, it saves a highlight each time you play through a level. You can either save it as a tidy little 5MB gif or post it directly to Twitter.

I picked up My Friend Pedro and played through it once. Getting S rank on all the levels will require quite an investment. I need some friendly score competition to have some (hopefully) intermediary goals. effidian on steam.

…and here is numero tres, “Type M”:

Hopefully this is on everyone’s wishlist. :)

For Tom’s watchlist.

A spiritual successor to Act Raiser from ACE Team (Zeno Clash) was just announced. It’s releasing on July 10 on all major platforms:

Press release:

  • Restore Humanity Back to Prosperity --Balancing side-scrolling action and top-down strategy elements, carefully guide each tribe from the clouds above in order to help expand their territory and dispel the dark fog that shrouds their lands. Once each of the creatures’ lairs have been exposed, you must take the role of Helios to fight the monsters head on.
  • Take the Fight to the Enemy --Armed with his sword, shield, and magical archery, Helios will need to confront a range of enemies including goblins, beastmen, bat riders, and more on his way to facing the Younger God that controls them. Defeating these challenging foes will grant Helios new magical powers such as healing herbs and ice shards.
  • Protect the Homeland --Help each tribe determine how to shape their village by utilizing a range of different units, from houses and farms to support the growing population, to building warrior barracks and archer towers to defend themselves against the waves of monster attacks.
  • Help from the Highest Powers --Yuzo Koshiro, the legend behind many classic video game soundtracks, has composed the opening theme to SolSeraph . Additionally, acclaimed writer Jonas Kyrazes ( The Talos Principle , The Sea Will Claim Everything ) has lent his talents to craft the game’s compelling narrative.

This looks very interesting.

I found this floating by on a random Blue’s News snippet. Only found one Let’s Play with any in-game footage. The gameplay itself looks like kind of a snooze but there was a considerable amount of work put into the voice work and presentation here. It reminds me of a really tricked-out Warcraft 3 custom or something.

For $6 I might just give it a go. They do all their blog updates in character, which is quirky.

I have a copy of it, so far it’s really nifty.

Bleh, early access. How early access? Let’s see:

So, very early access. The description on Steam says it’s basically a prologue.

Their previous game looks quite similar, conceptually. I tend to dig this sort of Infected Planet tug of war-type game.

From the dev’s that made all them kingdom rush games:

Well my last attempt got flagged for posting up for feedback for my game, so I’ll give it a go here. Little known indie dev (thats me!)

Here’s my game, been trying real hard to make it fun for all the players with updates every week. It’s a roguelike deckbuilder strategy card game, for mobile and pc

Damn that is a terrific trailer!

I’ve long been a roguelike-term-purist, but a roguelike deckbuilder is a term I can’t even conceptually understand, even though I’ve played games from that genre (e.g. slay the spire).

In what way are these games like-rogue? You get a single life?
