Magnum PI

I mean, it’s no Daredevil, I’ll grant you that.

By saying that, I’ll assume you mean that you hate Daredevil and if true, you must hate the Dawn of the Dead “reimagining.” If so then I’m fine with that statement.

Rob Merritt’s taste in movies vs. Dave Long’s taste in music:::: FIGHT!!!

Anyway, Owen Wilson could totally pull off Magnum.

I almost think I would rather see Luke Wilson than Owen. I’ll second McConaughy

Jesus Penis, Rob.

Did you not see the original?

I’m not Bill, but I saw the original and the remake. And I can’t believe anyone who liked the original could dislike the new Dawn. I prefer it to the original. Better acting, superior overall story, and simply more intense and creepy. Sustains that creepy tension all the way through the movie, too, which is quite the accomplishment. No letdowns at all. First horror movie I’d seen in ages that maintained its momentum like that. Actually, it’s one of the few movies of any sort that I’ve seen in the past five or six years that was perfectly paced. It never dragged, but neither did it seem cut short or speeded up. Great balance between story and characterization.

Did you not see the original?

How is whether Bill has seen one movie relevant to how good another movie is?

Since we are talking about remakes yeah its kind of important. When you remake something of cultural or artistic significants, you need to be at least respectful of the source material. This is why most people hate remakes becames most of them fail to do this. (in a vain attempt to keep this post somewhat on topic) With Magnum PI, sure hollywood could get a huge budget, adds lots of product sheen, get the best actors, writers and directors but if they ignore the tone, style and spirt of the original; they are just producing a new film that co-ops some nostalgia for marketing purposes.

The Dawn of the Dead remake did beneifit form a hollywood budget and modern technology. Higher production values, better actors, and the begining, the weakest part of the original, was an improvement. However the social commentry was toned down and horror and the fear was completely removed. It wasn’t creepy, it was funny. When I saw Dawn of the Dead remakes, there were several scenes that were outright comedy and the audience was laughing.

Ben Stiller as Magnum.

Well if you are going THAT route then I raise your Ben Stiller as Magnum and see you Kirstie Alley as Higgins.

Totally, because Bill can review movies without seeing them, apparently.

Ben Stiller as Magnum.FART

Hahah.

Was I wrong?

And yes, I have seen both the original DotD and the remake. The biggest difference (besides the opening sequence - the opener of the remake wasn’t just an “improvement,” it was tits with chocolate frosting) was that the parts I laughed at were intentional in the remake, not so much in the original.

Rob-

Since we are talking about remakes yeah its kind of important.

Why? Bill doesn’t think the new Dawn of the Dead was bad. He’s right, the new Dawn of the Dead wasn’t bad(it was, in fact, quite good). Even allowing that the old Dawn of the Dead was better, so? Lots of movies are better.
“Not the best movie ever” |= “retarded”

When you remake something of cultural or artistic significants, you need to be at least respectful of the source material.

  1. Why?
  2. Are we still talking about Dawn of the Dead?

This is why most people hate remakes becames most of them fail to do this.

Nerds trying to impress other nerds with their ‘street cred’ hate remakes.

Uncle Larry- Reread the thread. Rob says Movie A was bad. Bill says Movie A wasn’t bad. Rob asks, “Have you seen movie B?”. You spot the logical disconnect?

No.

Rob says Movie A was bad. Bill says Movie A wasn’t bad. Rob asks, “Have you seen movie B?”. You spot the logical disconnect?

Fine rereads thread SONOFABITCH! That is how it all went down! Then I must’ve made some jab about how Bill is also psychic, and can determine if movie B is good or not merely by focusing his juju. Which brings me to:

In principle, absolutely. Pragmatically, I’m not sure, as I haven’t seen Hostel.

Saw old Tom on Boston Legal tonite. He has aged pretty well and I see no reason he couldn’t reprise the part without losing credibility!

I say a slightly older Magnum returns to Hawaii to investigate the murder of Robin Masters…

You know what, Larry? Fuck principle. I’m sure Trespasser is a shitty game without ever having played it (nor, and this is part of my point, paying for the dubious privilege). You can drop a ten-spot for principle, if you want. And pragmatism? You’re not sure?

No, no, no. As much as he wanted a quiet life, Magnum was some sort of force for justice. Wrongs in need of righting continually showed up looking for him. I looked at the end of the series as meaning the whole thing had been a fantasy of his about not taking up his duty. In fact, he had never shirked it at all.

“Did you see the sun rise?”
“Yes, it was beautiful.”

Arise, the time has finally come!!!

After 12 years of extensive searching they have decided on a new Thomas Magnum, Private Investigator -
and it is Jay Hernandez (‘famously’ from Expanse & the tattooed guy from Suicide Squad)

I’m not really convinced, but sincerely hope they bring back the only thing that mattered from the TV show:
The Pornstache!

But … the Ferrari, and the helicopter, and Hawaii?!?

If it’s set in today’s time period I’m guessing a Tesla, a drone and Puerto Rico Saint Croix?
