MLB 2018 - Hope for a 7-game WS so they'll play on Halloween

Game 5 flashbacks? ;-)

Hey, the Yanks let Russell Wilson take a turn at bat! Didn’t go so well though.

And for the second straight spring, Tim Tebow faced Max Scherzer and struck out on three pitches. He did redeem himself later though, with a single against *squints* Erick Fedde.

Mike Moustakas turned down a $17.4m qualifying offer from the Royals in November, eyes set on free agency and expecting a nice new contract coming off a 38-HR season.

It’s a measure of just how bad the labor issues with MLB and that CBA are, that Moustakas just re-signed with the Royals. For $6.5 million. Yikes. The next labor stoppage in baseball is going to be a doozy.

-resigned sigh- … yeah, it will be.

edit - to be fair, his agent clearly screwed up because I know for a fact he had plenty of better options (money-wise) than what he settled for, but it doesn’t change the fact that he’s certainly underpaid even with bonuses.

Details:

Wow. Not only is that a far cry from the QO, it’s less than what he made last season, when he set the club’s single season HR mark.

We’re so obviously headed for a labor stoppage :(

An opinion that Boras kind of fucked this up, supported with some really good evidence.

Boras is his agent? My interest went from ‘that’s unfortunate for Mike’ to
IMG_4199

Just saying, this isn’t the first time it’s happened to one of his clients.

Boras is STILL his agent after that idiocy? Great article. It’s hard to feel too terrible for a guy that sadly had to accept over $5M for playing baseball though, with the likely possibility of a lot more next year.

Cue the “You would rather the owners keep all the money?” guy…

But yea, the next time the CBA is up it will no doubt be messy.

I’d rather the consumers keep the money because we’re the ones that constantly get screwed. Ticket prices ^^^^^^, merch prices ^^^^^^, food/drink prices ^^^^^^.

Well, the good news for Moose, is that while other clubs are concentrating on OBP these days (which he is bad at), the Royals are two steps ahead of everyone else in the advanced metrics of fighting pornography:

Moore has previously expressed concerns about pornography addiction. Last August, days after pitcher Danny Duffy was cited for DUI, Moore discussed “leadership” activities the club provided to players.

“We talk about pornography, and the effects of what that does to the minds of players and the distractions, and how that leads to abuse of — domestic abuse — to abuse of women,” Moore told reporters at a news conference last year.

Really, all this tells me is that Dayton Moore has some super-freaky shit in his Pornhub playlist.

Heh. Looks like 3/75 to the Phillies. So I was a bit under even after walking it back to 4/90 after @craigM defended the former Cub’s honor. But it’s no 6/125 for Darvish.

Huh, dang. Sad he’s gone.

Yeah higher AAV than Darvish, but fewer years. You got the years, I got the AAV.

Alshon Jeffery leaves Chicago for Philadelphia, wins the Super Bowl.

Jake Arrieta leaves Chicago for Philadelphia… ???

Ya never know!

Twins got a nice deal on Lance Lynn for one year too. $12m I believe? Maybe it’s $10?

Either way, last year was his first off TJ surgery, and he seemed to do fine until he got worn out late in the season.

Minnesota and Philly look like they played the free agent game very well this weird offseason.

Philly owners are sitting on a ton of broadcast money and the team has a fairly low payroll, mostly kids. So this makes sense, just a three year deal. And they signed Carlos Santana for 1B earlier. Now they just need to put people in the seats; the stadium was a bit of a ghost town last year. Jake will help with that, at least early on.

Yeah man, I am stoked about the Twins’ offseason overall. So I figure we’ll end up with 75 wins and sell off Dozier at the trade deadline ;)
