[Note: I forgot to put this in from the beginning, but this is an Early Access game, and there are still features being added to it, so that’s worth keeping in mind]
I’m surprised you guys aren’t all over this already.
This is a close quarters tactical strategy game where you have to plan your operation ahead of time, based on the layout of the location. You have to plan movement, coverage, throwing grenades, and place your snipers where you want them. Then you press execute and watch the whole thing play out.
I wish I was a giffing man, because watching your guys clear a location is fiendishly satisfying.
Actually, fuck it, I just did a really good run, so I’ll use that as an example:
This is what it looks like the in planning phase. I can move the timeline backwards and forwards to see how my guys are going to move:
These are my snipers that will be firing from beyond the camera in the beginning of the video:
And this is what it looks like when that plan is executed:
The AI isn’t exactly clever, but it does switch it up on every run, so if you’re sloppy with your coverage, they may screw up your plan.
My main criticism is that the UI and the controls are a little wonky. I’m at a point where I don’t feel hindered by it anymore, but it took me at least an hour to get used to the quirks of the design. It’s very idiosyncratic, and the game doesn’t do a great job of teaching you.
Shift-clicking to auto-path is essential, and I struggled to wrap my head around the timeline at first. Editing will feel like a chore until you understand the system.
Hopefully there’ll be some more work done on that part of the game.
Currently there are four factions: SWAT, FBI, Robbers and Gangsters. Robbers are my personal favourite. Playing with those guys is like the Heat videogame I always wanted :)
The demo is pretty generous, I recommend you give it a shot!
